No. [In reply to] Can't Post

On the contrary, they praise Ryan Gage quite a bit. Smile

"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that."

not exactly [In reply to] Can't Post

They don't talk about the negative reaction, but they do spend a fairly long chunk talking about why his character was needed (comic relief mostly) particularly in the post-Smaug refugee period. They could have kept the character of the Master around (he survives in the book for a while) but they decided Alfrid was more believeable as an opportunist who supported Bard.

Was thinking last night how good (and effortless) Ryan Gage is as Alfrid. IMO it's not Alfrid that's the problem, it was the over-use of the character in the TE which was not well-handled (as some have pointed out, stuffing Alfrid scenes in while other characters are desperately battling for their lives isn't funny, it's jarring and annoyingUnimpressed).

Fortunately IMO the EE "dilutes" some of the imbalance - IMO a lot of Alfrid should have been EE material vs. being in the TE.Unimpressed

ha ha [In reply to] Can't Post

I love Peter but that is obviously bull. The reason they didn't use Stephen Fry is because he was too expensive or wasn't available for the reshoots
