Hello back to ya dormouse [In reply to] Can't Post

I say, you may remain “unlided”

That’s pretty darn good. I didn’t realize that Burke’s Guide had all this info. in it. Wink

#2 You are the only one (so far) that stayed in The Old Guesthouse that I am aware of . . .
How was the tea?

#3 #2 Bagshot Row could be correct(?)

#6 The Anduin is a very long river. *picky BG* Mad

Yay! Otaku [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Ok, agreed - trick question. I asked “If you wanted a pint”. I didn’t say you would get it. Wink
But, er, are you sure no pints were served?

3. As with dormouse you could be correct.

4. Correct - Erebor. The Arkenstone was always “The Heart of the Mountain” before and after the death of Thorin as it was entombed with him.

Otherwise – perfecto.
THANKS! Smile

Hmmmmm.... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. If you wanted a pint of the best beer in East farthing where would you go?

The Sevensies-Elevensies down on the corner.

2. If you (a commoner) needed a room for overnight in Minas Tirith where would you stay?

It’s fun to stay at the Young Men’s Calenardhon’s Association. (Ladies can stay at its sister organization, the YWCA.)

3. What was Daddy Twofoot’s address?

“Four score fortnights and seven feasts ago, our fur-footed fathers brought forth in this farthing a fun forum, fixated on the fancy that all hobbits deserve a festive feeding…”

4. If you wanted to view “The Heart of the Mountain” where would you go?

World of Warcraft, though it's in a discontinued quest now.

5. What was the name of Farmer Maggot’s farm?

Lessee:

Well I came across a child of Eru, he was walking along the road
And I asked him tell where are you going, this he told me:
Well, I'm going down to Maggot’s farm, going to join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land, set my soul free.

So, Woodstock?

6. For the best view of the huge sculptures of Isildur and Anarion where would you be?

Sitting in my comfy hobbit hole viewing Frodo’s postcard from Amon Hen.

7. What name was Bagshot Row given after the Scouring of the Shire?

New Jersey.

8. Give three names for the western entrance to Moria.

"Moe, Larry, and Curly" though the Elves did give it the names "Moe, Larry, and Shemp", the sillies.

9. Where in Fangorn did Entmoot take place?

A breastaurant called “Mooters”. (And the chauvinist pigwoods dare to wonder why the Entwives left.)

10. Where did Isildur lose his Bane?

Out in the parking lot during the prom.

******************************************

"Mister Frodo, hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good frying pan at your side. I’ve been from one side of this garden to the other, I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful Providence controlling everything. There's no Music of the Ainur that controls my destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense."

Is this a place-ment test? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll give these a book-less try:

1. If you wanted a pint of the best beer in Eastfarthing where would you go?
The Golden Perch. But are they referring to a fish, or a bird's resting place?

2. If you (a commoner) needed a room for overnight in Minas Tirith where would you stay?
Hm, all that's coming to mind is Lamplighters' Street, but that's not it...do commoners have to stay on the first level?

3. What was Daddy Twofoot’s address?
Next door to the Gaffer, and since I think there are only 3 smials on that row, that would make his Number 2.

4. If you wanted to view “The Heart of the Mountain” where would you go?
Nowadays? Can't see it - supposedly Thorin (with the Arkenstone on his breast) is entombed (with Orcrist lying atop the tomb).

5. What was the name of Farmer Maggot’s farm?
Bamfurlong, which I didn't know until I read a later version of LotR (it's not in the Second Edition)!

6. For the best view of the huge sculptures of Isildur and Anarion where would you be?
Sailing down the Anduin towards them, from the North. Or hitching a ride on an eagle flying the same way.

7. What name was Bagshot Row given after the Scouring of the Shire?
The repositioned lane became New Row, or "Sharkey's End".

8. Give three names for the western entrance to Moria.
Doors of Durin, West-gate, Elven-gate.

9. Where in Fangorn did Entmoot take place?
Derndingle.

10. Where did Isildur lose his Bane?
In the Anduin as it flows past the Gladden Fields.

So...who's the innkeeper in Minas Tirith?

Thanks Darkstone for your most entertaining and enlightening usualness . . . [In reply to] Can't Post

I especially like

3. What was Daddy Twofoot’s address?

“Four score fortnights and seven feasts ago, our fur-footed fathers brought forth in this farthing a fun forum, fixated on the fancy that all hobbits deserve a festive feeding…”

This must be the Elvish Mode of alliter-ample

Reminds me of the song sung by the Gil-galad Marching Band as they prepared march on Mordor during The Last Alliance:

”Ware! The Last Alliance – staid, steadfast, and sacrosanct,
Staunch and stout, sturdy sons and sires,
‘Sembling steed and staff, sovereignty enshrouded.
Stern souls all and somber, set for South-sack.

Ware! The Last Alliance – scutcheon and stave to South-siege!
Shiv and scimitar shout servitude’s surrender.
Stalwart soldiers and strong for sooth’s sake.
Sacred spirits shine, scourge of Shadow’s storm.
Ware! The Last Alliance of Elves and Men of Elves and Men . . .

This is also in the Elvish mode of alliter-ample, which is difficult to render in the Common Speech, and this is (as usual) but a rough echo of it. echo of it, eecchhoo. . .

5. Hmm, “Woodstock”? I think that may have some Creedence . . .Wink

8. Still chuckling at those silly Elves with their "Moe, Larry, and Shemp"

10. Geez, I didn’t even know he was preggers. Sly

WAY to go! O bookless dernwyn me dear [In reply to] Can't Post

1. I never thought of that. There are perches and then there are perches, or, er, is more than one (fish) perch a perch or perches. “I’ve got a whole creel full of perches.” Smile

2. Ah, “The Old Lamplighter of Long Long Ago.” *insert music* Now look for the sign that says “Inn in here!”

3. Uh, oh! I could be wrong but I don’t believe we know how many holes there were on Bagshot Row. Help anybody!? Unsure

6. Well, as I mentioned to dormouse the Anduin is a loong river. (But you know where it is!) And no Eagle fudging thag you.

As for the innkeeper in Minas Tirith I read somewhere while I was asleep that his name, astounding as it seems, was Butskyman Butterbur – a distant relative of Barliman (they were third cousins thrice removed) and a heavy stockholder in the Butterbur Hostelry Franchise. Crazy Crazy

Well, the number of those holes may be in question... [In reply to] Can't Post

...but we all know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall!

Which I saw an ad for, while waiting for the Hobbit EEs to start, some event had been filmed there. Interesting how the ad started off with the Hall and its environs looking like they had been designed by those who did Yellow Submarine.

2. *checks other answers* That's what it is, not Lamplighters', but Lampwrights'! Laugh So I got a Lampwrong...Tongue

6. Well, they're getting close to the Falls of Rauros, and Parth Galen, well-known for the infamous bathing scene which was supposedly never filmed. (Or included in the published text.)
