Real World Stone Giant and Firemoon

This rock formation was known as The Old Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire, USA. Sadly, erosion took its toll and the face fell off the mountain a few years ago. Sure looks like a stone giant to me.

in the USA? I know that he traveled a lot and got inspirations from his mountain-journeys (as stated in the annotated Hobbit).

My compliments to whomever managed to take that shot of the setting moon at just the right moment! (The Old Man is west of the highway.) I've had the delight of seeing him "in his glory", and seeing the remains of the erosion...no matter how much they tried to shore up the rock, 'twas time, weather, and gravity which finally prevailed.

What a fantastic shot, thanks for sharing it with us. It certainly DOES look like a stone giant. And the "fire moon" is a lovely bonus.

(which I refuse to believe was caused by erosion--we all know how belligerent those stone giants can be ). What a beautiful "firemoon" too. Thanks for sharing, Meneldor!
“Tollers,” Lewis said to Tolkien, “there is too little of what we really like in stories. I am afraid we shall have to try and write some ourselves.”
