Bilbo Is More Clever Than I Realized

I'm not sure if anybody else noticed this, and I'm just late to the party, but in AUJ, when Elrond reads the moon runes, still (probably not) believing Gandalf's lie that the purpose of reading them is mainly academic, Thorin spills the beans by saying "This is ill news. Summer is passing, Durin's Day will soon be upon us." Then Balin makes it worse by saying "We still have time." At first I thought Bilbo was pretty dumb. "Time for what?" What do you think Bilbo, time to get the mountain and open the door obviously! But then I thought, what if he was trying to still keep the quest a secret? That would be pretty smart, and I wouldn't put it past him. He was the only one with the nous to play for time in the troll scene. Obviously, just like in the troll scene when Óin and Kíli mention they don't have parasites and ruin Bilbo's ploy, Balin ruins Bilbo's attempt by saying "We need to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.", but still it was a good effort by Bilbo to try to stay loyal to the secrecy of the quest, and not to let Thorin and Balin betray themselves to the 'hated' elves...

If you look in DoS at him entering Mirkwood he says something about Durin´s day like not having any idea what is going on ¿seriously? So I think PJ and co use him to exposition of the plot nothing more But yeah I can follow your point thoug I dont suspect nothing of the manner
The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true Survivor to the battle for the fifth trailer Hobbit Cinema Marathon Hero
