I haven't started official therapy after my stroke yet, but Can't Post

I figured out a good project would be to re-learn the harp. It's challenging but fun. Good for training the brain and good for the soul too. Of course, working on LOTR music :-)

Excellent idea! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been worried about you and sending healing vibes as often as I can. I know the harp can help.
I just started learning to play this year and it has made a very big difference in my mood and health. My doctors are even commenting on it. Harps are magic!
I'm sure you will have bad days, but through it all, remember we're here for you.

I'm thrilled to be alive and relatively unhurt. And time off work is a good retreat time.

I think you're already pretty good at the harp, so I'll look forward to what new LOTR music you'll come up with after more practice Smile

your next recording!

I once talked to a brain specialist about a student of mine who had recently joined an orchestra, and who'd had water on the brain as a baby. (Brillliant child, but just those unpredictable, glitchy things that can happen with brain trauma.) He said that being in the student orchestra was one of the best things she could possibly do to help with brain function.

Maybe you should get a whole harp ensemble together . . .CrazyCool

I'm definitely more awkward than I was, partly because my right hand is numb. I have to use my eyes to guide it. If I close my eyes I can't tell where the strings are at all. But I love a musical challenge.

Ah! But [In reply to] Can't Post

at my hand therapy center (where I used to practically live, before I found out about manual physical therapy) says that touching and manipulating different shapes and textures with the hand is the best way to bring back a nerve. Granted, those are local nerves; but still, with different string thicknesses and positions (and are some wound strings and some not?) should be just the ticket. Time, and persistence, of course are the other ingredients, but you have both of those, as a hiker and musician.Cool

Yes, that's my hope. [In reply to] Can't Post

One of my therapies is to fill a bowl with dried rice and another with dried beans, and hide loose change in there and try to feel the differences. So far nothing; it's like having novocaine in that hand. But I'm told it will come.

Today I tried playing my guitar and got pretty weepy, which I view as a good thing: it's about time I got some rain, and music helps. I can't help grieving a bit when my right hand feels like a claw and my singing comes out garbled. I've been so euphoric about being alive that's it's taken a week to acknowedge those other feelings. (To heck with the spelling. That will come back in time.)

I've been there with my leg. After surgery last year my right leg was all but completely numb. But, as the doctor told me it would, the sensory cortex from the other hemisphere eventually took over. It's not 100%, but definitely better than it was.

Have a good cry and then get back to playing. You'll get there. {{{Hugs}}} Smile

Shocked Oh dear! Busy brain has been busy with my RL projects and I hadn't checked TORn for a while, so this is the first I've heard about this. I'm so very glad you're...well...alive! *bear hugs*Heart

My grandma had a stroke a few years ago and it was scary, but she recovered well and I hope the same speedy recovery happens for you! *even more hugs*

Take care of yourself Auntie Baggins!Heart

Lord I give you everything, Anything you want from me
Take my past and my future I lay it at your feet
Yeah, I'm after your heart, you've stolen mine
I give you my all 'cause you gave up your life
I'm not who I was simply because, Oh, you set me free

And you change me from what I used to be
Opened my eyes, now I can see
You're making this life so beautiful
So beautiful
