BOFA: EE Official Announcement Imminent Can't Post

Over on Blu-ray.com forums user Akijama (who is very good at sourcing announcements and new info on Blu-rays) has noted that the following blurb was just published on Warner's press site. He thinks the full press release will come later today (based on past form with WB). Of course, whether or not we get the clip from Yahoo remains to be seen:

Quote
The Hobbit: Battle Of The Five Armies

Street Date: 11/17/2015

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ TRILOGY

With 20 MINUTES of New and Extended Scenes Not Seen in Theaters

Rafiki? [In reply to] Can't Post

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olLxrojmvMg
I read your post in the voice of Rafiki from the Lion King. (In the scene where he is trying to convince Simba to save the Pride Lands.) I'm about as excited as old Rafiki.

...Now that I think about it. I think the scene is where he just realized that Simba is alive.

Press Release [In reply to] Can't Post

Here:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/...lu-ray/#entry4285531

As usual, lacking in specifics. But specific details should follow soon enough.

The near-month gap from digital download to physical release is an absolute joke, I'll say that much.

There's that darn '20 minutes' typo again. [In reply to] Can't Post

Don't they know it's supposed to be 30?

But seriously, that digital/physical gap is out of control.

"A 20-MINUTE LONGER CUT" [In reply to] Can't Post

Is that the language that they have used in the past, or has it been more like "featuring 20 minutes of new, never before seen material" or something like that. The way that it is phrased does seem to support the notion that there is more than just added material.

'But very bright were the stars upon the margin of the world, when at times the clouds about the West were drawn aside.'

agreed! [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think the language for DOS or AUJ was the same. I believe they said "25 minutes of never before seen footage" or something along those lines. "A 20 minute longer cut" is very interesting terminology" Might mean we're getting an additional minute or two of altered footage.

"the extended cut of the final film in The Hobbit Trilogy includes 20 minutes of extra footage " [In reply to] Can't Post

That's what it says in the detailed section.

If things were changed, I don't know why they wouldn't mention it/try to hide it.

A good thing about the digital release being a month earlier... [In reply to] Can't Post

Is that I'll be able to read about the changes in detail sooner. I like knowing all about what's been added and changed, then I can relax and wait for the physical release (my preferred way to own/watch movies) to come.

only 20 minutes more [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't like to say it, but an extra 20 minutes seems like a disappointment after the other 5 films gave us an extra 30 minutes or so.

I'm a little bummed :(

Unfortunate for WB... [In reply to] Can't Post

It means I'll know whether or not it's worth buying beforehand. Without the inevitable leaks from the digital download I would've bought a copy out of curiosity (especially with the R rating). But thanks to their terrible marketing, I might be able to save some money Laugh

The 4 week gap is ridiculous.... [In reply to] Can't Post

I can understand and accept a 1 or 2 week 'delay' between the digital download and hard copy release, but a month long wait is ridiculous. Do they really want to push people so heavily towards downloads, or do they just think that some people are so desperate they'll buy both?

"....20 minutes of extra footage and more than 9 hours of bonus features..."

Was hoping against hope that we would get at least 30-45 mins.
Take an hour of bonus material off in a trade.

A digital copy released with the earlier date should come with any physical order. [In reply to] Can't Post

That would make the most sense, I don't know why they don't do this.
