And I remember, "in honor of Richard's birthday" - when WETA tweeted IMO one of the most glorious pictures of a movie character ever made - OMG..... But with everything ever said in praise of Richard's Thorin, it will never be enough IMO. Re-watching the DOS EE, it's a performance that's almost too much to grasp - the heart and passion of it, the jaw-dropping nuances of the voice work, the fire of it - OMG the entry to Erebor I remember every single audience I ever saw that in theaters with, and it would be so quiet, and reverent even.... And what can we say - or even imagine - about the courage of this actor? The classiness? I can imagine, most actors that read for Thorin wouldn't turn down a "plum" lead role - but. To accept the part - and we all know the Hobbit films weren't green lit; and then the flak about whether Richard was right for the part (and evidently some comments were ruthless) and then the sheer daily difficulty - the fight training, the heavy costumes, the script changes - it seems like Richard crushed himself into a diamond... And that jewel is forever just GLORIOUS - the Mountain King indeed - magnificently toppling the possible mindset that dwarves may be depicted as ale-swilling comic figures.... How many actors could have handled the concept of a maddening king, with such an exquisite deftness, such craft, that your heart breaks for the character who at the same time is so beautiful and haunting and you are unable to look away from? And of course, that same level of consummate skill has been brought to the roles that followed the Hobbit - don't need to re-iterate all the praise that has been lavished on the Crucible - and the thoroughly enjoyable "hot Dad" of Into the Storm - but I'll just say that it's probably few actors who can make a horrific serial killer someone you actually worry about... I am sure Richard is receiving a tidal wave of good wishes from around the world, and plenty of gifts, but IMO the performances he has given us are beyond price. (Including, of course, setting the bar awfully high re being romantic e.g. N&S) Happy birthday Richard! - Now I hafta hope I can see "Pilgrimage" which looks IMO amazing! We still remember, we who dwell. In this far land beneath the trees......

Do you know that you're born on the same day of the week as I was, because for some reason August 22nd and July 25th always fall on the same day, probably because July and August are in between two months that only have 30 days (June and September), and although I've only seen you as Thorin Oakenshield, John Thornton and Gary Fuller, I'm looking forward to seeing you in more movies (had no interest in Hannibal, sorry, and it's not that I don't like horror, I just don't care for that particular one, since I haven't even seen the movies, so I would have been lost with the series). Hope you have a great day!
"Will you follow me... one last time?"
