No [In reply to] Can't Post

I would fail miserably.
I recall thinking that Bilbo was quite clever, when I first heard the riddles (in the Rankin Bass animation).

Riddles, Riddles and more riddles [In reply to] Can't Post

Tolkien's Riddles are classic and vary from easy to 'what the heck?" Gollum would have eaten me.

A long time ago (2002 and 2004), in an ethernet far far away (burpingtroll.com) .........

The Burping Troll writers made up lots of riddles ...here are three to whet your appetites.... I'll check back tomorrow with answers. Or go to http://burpingtroll.com/fun.htm and slide to the middle for Riddles of the Burping Troll

1. Celebsul’s 1st
We were Morgoth's best breed
Fire is the clue
But we're good in the garden
And catch fishes too

2. Celebsul’s 2nd
I'm a bad tempered sort
All withered and grim
And I'll crush anybody
Oo'er, but not Him

3. Celebsul’s 3rd
We were here before elves
Spies for the goodies
Swift, deadly fighters
But now we're just cabbies

Aw, easy! [In reply to] Can't Post

Go 'em all...but then, since the answers were multiple-choice, it made for quite an easy process of elimination.

Fun, though - thanks for the link!

1. Great “Worms” (good in the garden & bait for fish) – Dragons = (fire)

2. Old Man Willow - canna crush Bombadillo

3. Gotta be Eagles . . . “Taxi!”

*Now peeky peeky for accuracy* Wink

Boromir looked in surprise at Bilbo, but the laughter died on his lips when he saw that all the others regarded the old hobbit with grave respect. Only Glóin smiled, but his smile came from old memories.
