Maximum attachment size in private messages? Can't Post

I wonder if there is a natural explanation - and a solution! - for this. I was trying to upload a photo in a private message and got this error message:
Your attachment was not uploaded successfully: The attachment exceeds the maximum attachment size (2.05 KB)

Can that be true? The limit has been 48 KB until now. Unimpressed

It's always been the default [In reply to] Can't Post

Of 30.7 Kb and 3 attachments. For forum posts, it's 50 Kb.

However, I just tested it and got the same message. We've probably filled up the storage capacity for PM attachments (which is why the size is limited in the first place). I'll increase it once I consult the great Corvar and BG. Thanks for the alert! Smile

The problem is back [In reply to] Can't Post

I have to bother you again with this...
Your attachment was not uploaded successfully: The attachment exceeds the maximum attachment size (3.79 KB)

Would it be possible to get some more substantial storage capacity for PM attachments, since the problem keeps repeating?

Thank you Smile

Hi, wondering on the status of this? [In reply to] Can't Post

The message is still popping up with a 1.01KB limit - any word on getting it fixed? Thanks!

Is someone hogging TORn storage capacity on purpose? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd like to ask any admin who might have a few minutes to please tell us what is the situation regarding attachments. (And I assure you that at least I am NOT spamming half of TORn with oversized photos from my home album! - but it has been fun, until now, to share a few little pictures every now and then - back and forth, with TORn friends on the other side of the world, more or less - and I know I'm not the only one bothered by this issue... Understanding, of course, that picture sharing is not the main purpose of this board.)

I think there might be something weird going on because the allowed attachment size has fluctuated over the past few weeks. First the size limit was 48 KB (the normal as it used to be), then 37 KB, then suddenly it was 1.01 KB, then another night it was 45 KB and now it's down to 1.01 KB again.

In addition, one friend mentioned that a while back "there didn't seem to be a size limit in PMs like there were for main posts" - which sounds very strange because to me, there has ALWAYS been that 48 KB limit until now. Is it possible that on the same board some members have attachment size limits while some others do not?

I just had the thought that maybe someone somewhere is able to send HUGE files, due to some technical loophole, while others are left with "nothing"?

Many thanks advance! I understand if it's just not possible to free any storage space for now, but it would be nice if we got an update on the situation nonetheless.

It should be fixed now [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not sure why it kept going back-and-forth between acting okay and not. I suspect it was so close to the storage limit that some larger attachments set off the alarm while others didn't.

With B.G.s help, I've increased the server storage allotment for PM images and attachments by 'a lot.' Laugh It should be good to go now for quite a while.
