An
R-
rated film may include strong language, violence, nudity, drug abuse, other elements, or a combination of the above. Parents should take this advisory
rating very seriously. Most parents will consider these movies to be too adult for their children under 17. And no children will be admitted.
Now on to Jackson and BOTFA. I think it's absolutely absurd that a Hobbit film would/could get an R rating, and it will only be a polarizing mess to audiences. Why a parent should have to suddenly have to wonder if BOTFA EE is appropriate for a 12 year old is ludicrous, and Jackson must have really lost his way if he thinks this is a solid finish for the series. We already know one thing for certain; since it won't be language, nudity, drug abuse, or any number of other things it will most certainly be because of some kind of violence. Jackson's bizarre approach to cartooniness and humor in the Hobbit includes some shockingly grotesque images. Characters being beheaded and still looking around or grimacing, heads being slid slowly off of bodies, knives being plunged into brains, a character with all its limbs removed and chains coming out of its eye sockets, etc etc. I'd put good money on the R rating being placed because Jackson lacks restraint, not because of a couple extra characters being defeated in battle.
