Ah well, I managed to type 'Turin' when I meant 'Hurin' once... [In reply to] Can't Post

Autocorrect error or brain failure, I don't remember. It did cause some confusion (and probably amusement). And of course to help me, people did need to check whether I'd mis-typed or was really confusing Hurin/Turin (because perhaps such a confusion that would have explained whatever point I was unclear about...). The thing was, people enquired about this in such a way that it was clear they were trying to help.

But I do think that if perfectly proof-read English were ever to become mandatory for Reading Room posts, we'd all be domed Smile

And there's always something new! [In reply to] Can't Post

I read LotR almost annually, and have participated in (I think) seven RR read-throughs, and still every time there are new insights or ways to look at things. Sometimes these come from "the learned" among us, and quite often from new readers who bring fresh viewpoints. All are welcome!

(British joke: "Typhoo" is a brand of tea.)

Yes, that's the ongoing fascination for me... [In reply to] Can't Post

...being able to borrow from other people's experiences and interpretations of the books. We're all stuck having one ongoing lifetime of experiences. It affects how we see a book (I would argue). So it's interesting and fresh to hear what others think.

If Tyrion Lannister is right that a reader lives 1,000 lives (and Tyrion seems a trustworthy bloke, surely Wink ) we must have so many lives to call upon between us. I'm looking forward, in the upcoming read through of Two Towers, to finding out about many of them.
