I like Isaacs. He's cool, but he doesn't look very elvish to me. I'm so relieved they ended up casting Lee Pace Evil

He would have been my choice for Elrond. [In reply to] Can't Post

If the HP universe hadn't gotten to him first.

I'm quite happy with Lee Pace as Thranduil. Smile

Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.

Lee Pace did a terrific job, no doubt. [In reply to] Can't Post

I just think of Thranduil when I see Isaacs playing Malfoy. The cockiness, bearing, look etc.

Before the films .... [In reply to] Can't Post

... I thought Paul Bettany might make a good Thranduil - a good elf, anyway. I'd never heard of Lee Pace when they announced his casting - but I thought he was magnificent. Not really 'my' Elvenking, but so like some of the Silmarillion elves.

could have played the part of Thranduil's father, Orpher. Smile

Tim Huddleston could have played Thranduil.

But I too am happy with Lee Pace

Agree [In reply to] Can't Post

Tom Hiddleston would have been great – he's a terrific actor and has unusual, 'lean' looks that would be suitable for an Elf, unlike many of the actors that were cast as Elves in both trilogies.

I think Lee Pace was excellent – it's just a shame his character wasn't explored more and rounded off…

Mmm! [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, I love how he plays Loki in the Thor's movie.

Yes, it would have been nice if Thranduil's character could have been more explored. It would have been nice if the whole hobbits and LOTR trilogy could have been explored from start to finish.

How the ring got started, Sauron and how the elves where involved.

But It'll probably never happen in our life timeUnimpressed

I'd say [In reply to] Can't Post

For me there's sufficient explanation about Elrond, say, in LotR, but when it comes to Thranduil, very little was explained. There were hints about some white gems, and about a fight with a dragon, a dislike of Thorin and Dwarves, and an uptightness about him, but none of this was ever explained. It should have been, in my view.

In fact, had there not been such a desperate attempt to shovel Legolas and Turiel into these films, as well as such 'fun' elements as crude toilet humour and the like, and to provide unneeded links to LotR, I feel that Thranduil (and also Beorn) could have been dealt with much better.

Exactly. [In reply to] Can't Post

When they did pickups for LotR, it felt like they really knew what they were doing in terms of expanding on the main story and fleshing out characters. After the three film split with The Hobbit, for the most part it seemed like they cared more about adding "fun" stuff for the sake of adding it, even if the main story and core characters were shoved to the side. I think Bard is the only character that really benefited from the whole situation.
