The light grey is definitely a possibility. With AUJ EE it was just assumed by most I think that we would simply have 3 different colours again, this time with that 'leather' book texture. The only addition/difference to the LOTR EE covers being the acorn motif, representing AUJ. With DOS EE it became more clear that they were following set materials that are key parts of the film. In this case Erebor and the engraving above the throne being the motif. This definitely leads to light grey being a strong contender to represent ice, though what the motif would be I couldn't guess. (A Raven perhaps, Dwarven helmet or Orcrist?) The only problem is this would appear out of line with the other covers when looking purely from a colour perspective, and would cause inconsistency with the CD covers. (though this was already an issue when AUJ had the same DVD and CD colour.) We'll see soon enough, always a fascinating discussion though I think!

the only other sensible material that comes to mind is metal, so I could see dark grey with detailing like the armour/weapons.

The end of the story (elves notwithstanding) truly centers around Thorin, his reign (short and mad though it was) and redemption, and his relationship with Bilbo, all threaded together in an epic climactic battle. So I would think Durin blue, simply because it is the color of Thorin's house. Or gold or silver. But I'm inclined to think Durin blue
