Have to vote for John Thornton [In reply to] Can't Post

but Mr. Darcy is a close second. Haven't seen the last two, although Ciaran Hinds was a good Rochester.

Must see the Timothy Dalton Rochester... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm going to say he's the best that I've seen. Of course, this was a series and not just a two hour movie .

OK, time for a rewatch.

I was not a fan of Wuthering Heights, but maybe I should have mentioned its star Heathcliff?

Definitely Richard [In reply to] Can't Post

even if I love Poldark and how Aidan plays it. The reason lies probably in the fact that North and South is a better novel than the Poldark series.Wink

you mean Tom Hardy? [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, he was good in thatEvilHeart But he did a fair amount of brooding in "Warrior" as well:

Yeah, it took Richard Armitage to get me off my Hardy obsession!Shocked But let's face it, NOBODY can do full-on brooding like RichardHeartHeartHeart
Whether it's Guy of Gisborne,

John Mulligan,

Or Lucas North,

he can out-brood the best of 'em. And of course there's THIS guy:

So, as much as I like Aidan in "Poldark", it's just got to be Richard!EvilHeartHeartHeart

Actually I was thinking of Timothy Dalton [In reply to] Can't Post

He did both Heathcliff and Mr. Rochester too. Actually I think that probably makes him the king of the rotors. EvilEvil

RA as Thornton for sure [In reply to] Can't Post

much as I love Dalton as Rochester, I think Orson Welles outdid him in the broody aspect in the role.

But I think I'm going to have to change my mind and go with TD. No, I didn't like Wuthering Heights, but he was an A number one brooder in two classics. Gotta give him credit.

Well, this is a list of Brooder royalty [In reply to] Can't Post

but I think I'd like to vote for David Rintoul as Mr. Darcy in the 1980 film. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I recall we got brooding, brooding, and more brooding.

We got quite a lot of lovely brooding with Mr. Thornton, but I would say it's tempered with a tidy bit of glowering. Angelic

good choice [In reply to] Can't Post

He certainly looked the part better than any of the other actors who have played Darcy. I was shocked to realize when I saw him a later part (Five Red Herrings in fact) that they'd built up the bridge of his nose for Darcy to give him an aquiline profile. (Matthew MacFadyen would have benefited from a similar prostheses methinks.)

I was surprised to see how much he resembles the young Timothy Dalton Rochester...Shocked
