Sam Neal and Hugo Weaving - look alikes Can't Post

Watching Jurassic Park 3 and I was thinking, "geez, Sam Neal shares looks with Hugo Weaving...sure enough, others have the same idea:

In real life together...old friends? [In reply to] Can't Post

"AVC: Just to get formal clarification on an unsubstantiated Wikipedia claim, is it true that you were offered the part of Elrond in The Lord Of The Rings but had to decline because of your commitments to Jurassic Park III?

SN: No, but I was offered a part in Lord Of The Rings, but it wasn’t Elrond. That, of course, was my friend Hugo Weaving, for whom I am often confused. Neither of us understands why, but probably twice a week I’ll be walking down the street and someone will say, “Loved you in The Matrix!” [Laughs.] And I always smile graciously and say, “Thank you very much!”

His birth name's actually Nigel [In reply to] Can't Post

But I think he's been Sam for most of his life, and I don't think Nigel Neill's as widely recognised as Sam Neill. :)

Hugo Weaving ever gets "loved you in Jurassic Park!"

Funny how people perceive faces [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think SN and HW resemble each other at all. But I do find doppelgängers fun to study. For instance, I see a striking resemblance between the faces of Carey Mulligan and Melissa McCarthy despite their weight difference. Both have twinkling eyes with arched brows and deep dimples when they smile. Anybody else see it? Or see look-alikes that others may not?

P.S. You know I just realized both CM and MMc are Irish. Perhaps that explains it. Wink

they all have similar ones.

I had trouble telling them apart for a few years [In reply to] Can't Post

Pre-LOTR. They could easily play brothers. They even sound a little alike at times - similar timbre in their voices.

Hugo's the one with the gigantic forehead [In reply to] Can't Post

I've never confused them; in fact, until this thread it didn't occur to me that they look alike, even.

But then I'm one of the few people in the world who can tell my identical grand-nephews apart. Even their grandmother can't.

Telling people apart [In reply to] Can't Post

Growing up, my best friends were identical twins. I never had any trouble telling them apart, though. They were mirror-image twins, which helped.

Maybe it's something to do with whatever features we use as markers to identify people. I imagine different folks pay attention to different details.

I get Robert de Niro and Al Pacino mixed up. [In reply to] Can't Post

I felt bad about it until a friend and I were watching heat, and he complained loudly when the two lead characters meet face-to-face as he thought both characters had been played by the same actor!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

with my great-nephews [In reply to] Can't Post

it's personality. Twin S has a twinkle in his eye that says "I'm up to something," while Twin H regards the world more seriously. And they were like this from the get-go.
