Is it strange that no one looked up and saw Can't Post

This? A thing designed to be seen from miles away? Surely they had tons of people on watch. And of course I understand that everyone was preoccupied with the entrance of Erebor. But you have to hand it to Azog. It was bold choice, if not a little obvious.

It wasn't intended to be hard to see. [In reply to] Can't Post

The key was knowing in advance what the signals meant. If you didn't know the code then you couldn't understand the instructions.

One would think, though, that the contraption would have been better protected.

But surely someone... [In reply to] Can't Post

Some Elf or something must have looked at it and thought "Wait, what is that?".

Legolas [In reply to] Can't Post

If Legolas had been there, I'm sure his Elf Eyes would have spotted it immediately.

"If anything moves on that mountain, kill it."

Except for Bilbo?....Well, Bilbo does have a RIng tho...Cool So I guess he could easily cross all that open ground to get to Dale.

They probably did considering the loud horn... [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't see why that's important? Isn't it supposed to be easy to see, so the orcs know what to do. Crazy

Well "WE attack @ DAWN.." [In reply to] Can't Post

That particular evening, Bilbo presents the Arkenstone to
the Three Captains in the Tent in Dale...

Alfrid is their LOOK-OUT? Well, we know how bad he was @ THAT..?
{"Nothing gets past me..?}

SSOo.. Bomby proposes that AZOG & Crew Constructed it overnight.

IT does look Hastily constructed, possibly carried by
Trolls, & whipped up temporarily.
Kinda a semaphore signal? that reminds
Bomby of Bat wings that can turn & point to towards Dale @ one time.

The design izzz kinda ORCISH? Tattered remains of Animal skins.
Much like what we saw in Goblintown...

I wondered that too [In reply to] Can't Post

Why is this of importance? I thought the whole point of it was that they would be in plain sight. Obviously the armies are being lead from somewhere? It also pinpoints where Azog is. If anything Azog would want to be seen in hopes to lure Thorin up which... frankly, it did.

Do we know that they didn't? [In reply to] Can't Post

And if they did, what would you be expecting them to do about it with an army of orcs charging at them? Soon as Thorin got the chance he did try to do something about it, so he obviously saw.

No. [In reply to] Can't Post

The Hobbit trilogy can't be explained with logic. More Importantly, that entire battle can't be explained with logic.

Were worms show up and disappear. Bard trusts a dumb villain with important tasks and his children. Azog brings a second army that does nothing. Did the eagles change the tide of the battle? Who knows.

What a mess of a battle in general.

"You're love of the halflings leaf has clearly slowed your mind"

^^^ That unnecessary apostrophe and "e" is due to the leaf itself. And this part of the signature was documented quite some time after the effect had worn off.

It looks like the rig was probably made ahead of time, carried to the top of Ravenhill and then errected on-the-spot. I like the guess that it might have been carried up there in the night.

They've only got to put the footings in place [In reply to] Can't Post

possibly under cover of darkness. Then slot the mechanism in place as the orc army appears. If you look at how quickly a crew can get a mast up - after taking a boat under a low bridge for example - it's easily achievable. I assumed that as soon as it went up, it would have been noticed, but the battle was already under way and nothing to be done about it until Thorin leads his little raid.

It's a shame that there weren't any extraordinary archers who could have sniped the visible leaders, sent a couple fire arrows into the structure and then picked off anyone who tried to douse the flames.

Nope. No archers in this movie. Crazy
