Just for fun: "Rufus' Song" (SPOILERS for Ruins of the North)

I just received Ruins of the North an adventure supplement for The One Ring Roleplaying Game, in the mail yesterday. The adventure "Concerning Archers" has a bit of doggerel that I thought I'd share. My sources credit the adventure to James M. Spahn, but I'm not sure if he actually composed the verse. Rufus' Song (This is the song sung by the Hobbit archers who came to Fornost in service of King Arvedui. Sung to the tune of 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home.") Hobbits go marching north to war The Shire! The Shire! Longing for our hearth so warm The Shire! The Shire! We go to serve and lend our bows And off to face the northern woes! And stop the Shadow Hobbits go marching north! And slay the darkness Hobbits go marching north! Crying aloud with shaft to string The Shire! The Shire! The Enemy shall feel our sting The Shire! The Shire! Yet we long to turn away We know the cause to which we stay! Sing one last song Hobbits go marching north! Sing our last song Hobbits go marching north!

I can almost hear the stamping of big bare furry feet as the archers sing this.
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, these see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep. -Psalm 107

I thought that at least a few TORn members would enjoy this. The book also includes an adventure that introduces Tom Bombadil and Goldberry at one point ("Shadows over Tyrn Gorthad") which has several lines of rhyming dialog for Tom. For example: Hail lady of cheerful rains! Star of my days who never wanes! Fairer than the sun on water! Queen of my heart, the River-daughter!

No apologies. Bomby-speak can be difficult to decipher! There is a full-color illustration of Old Tom on page 134 of Ruins of the North, but I can't find a way to link to it and I don't have a credit for the illustrator.
