Fili got side-lined due to Kili favouritism. Fili has very few lines, some of which are impossible to even identify as Fili, and then we're confronted with this drawn-out over-dramatic death scene for a dwarf that had relatively little screen-time.
Even when left in Laketown, Bofur had more to do than Fili.
