Dwarves were the Central focus this time. Moria was a Shell of it's Self in LOTR... Yet, with the Fabled Funeral Scene we WILL see EREBOR Filled with people, Finally. There are many Hopes, for Bomby? Bombur finds the Community Kitchens...! "Salted pork ripe off the Bone.!" would Be a great LINE for him to Finally say.. Bifur finds the Toy Stores... Ori finds the Libraries.. Gloin gets to Grab handfuls of Money... Oin finds their Hospital? Will they complete their Journeys? Will we get to Explore Erebor some more? ARE there enough Maori Men's Chorus's Chanting DEEPLY in NZ? to fill our Hearts with Joy & Sorrow, as the Halls have a Funeral of Special Magnificence.... Bomby may jus' roll up into a Ball WEEPING...to this long awaited scene.

Professor Tolkien originally placed Khazad-dum in the Blue Mountains, eventually replacing it with Belegost and Nogrod, and moving Moria to the Misty Mountains. I think that Tolkien's early placement of the Longbeards in the Blue Mountains during the First Age was superseded by later writings. The name Indrafangs was used by Tolkien at various times to refer to the Longbeards (Durin's Folk), the Dwarves of Nogrod (possibly the Firebeards), and the Dwarves of Belegost (perhaps the Broadbeams). Bifur, Bofur and Bombur might be descended from the Indrafangs of Belegost if we can consider the latter canon.

There are at least enough Dwarves left from Dain's army to fill some scenes in the extended edition. Dwarves returning from the Ered Luin, though, wouldn't be able to make it in time for the post-battle scenes. Chances are that they wouldn't even be able to set out until the next Spring. If Bombur does find the kitchens, they would need a lot of cleaning before they could get used. Ingredients are going to be limited to what the armies brought with them. I really don't think that we'll see much more of the interior of Erebor beyond Thorin's Tomb and the Throne Room. However, I might be wrong.

I have never objected to Roac and his kin and their ability to use and understand the common-tongue. I have confidence that Jackson and his Weta crew could have made it work.

A FORGE of Special Magnificence? .................................. TRADE...Would the Lothlorien Elves Visit? Would the Woodsmen of southern Mirkwood TRADE their Skills for Mithril? The Beornlings would likely have been Friends? Would the Rohan... been Guests? DID Saurman ever VISIT? .......................... Khazad-dum probably benefited from the influx of Dwarves from Belegost and Nogrod in year 40 of the Second Age. The Dwarves of Belegost had carved out the Thousand Caves of Menegroth for King Thingol and they invented chain mail. I don't think that there is any record of dealings between the Dwarves of Moria and the Elves of Beleriand. We know that there was friendship between Moria and the Noldor of Eregion (Hollin). I imagine that feasts and banquets were not uncommon during that time. It almost certainly surpassed Erebor in grandness. I think, though, that the Elves of both Lothlorien and Mirkwood always kept to themselves; the major exceptions being the Last Alliance of Elves and Men and the times when the Elves of Lorien provided aid to Elrond.

Both in the book and the movie, I wondered what Moria would look like when dwarves were living there, especially that vast hall filled with pillars. How was that used? Did they partition off areas for feasting and storytelling, perhaps with tapestries? Where were the living quarters? Presumably there were areas to work the mithril after it was mined. That's one thing I loved to see in movie Erebor - we finally got to see an underground city, with multiple levels, balconies presumably leading to living quarters, and dwarves going about their daily work. "Chambers filled with golden light" and so vibrant.

HOW Nervous do you think PJ was? "..WHAT a KIWI? is gunna "Tackle Tolkien"..? There were likely many,...skeptics in that ROOM Our introduction to The Deep Places of MiddleEARTH was a KILLER EVENT..that even solicited sympathy for a Cave TROLL who dies..? RE-WATCH that short Fight..IT's absolutely Brilliant!. People probably sat there...with their Mouths OPEN Staring @ the SCREEN... in Dis-Belief? Now, we are Cool with it BUT back then.?.IT was a, a, a, A EYE-Popping, Mind-Blowing Film. "The FAMOUS Bedtime Story that was impossible to Film" WAS right there before your EYES! What a JOY it is to re-visit today, Tomorrow & for LONG as you can see into YOUR future.. A MOVIE about Moria...Yes that would be nice.

A MOVIE about Moria...Yes that would be nice. As much as you and others would like to see such a film (either about Balin's colony or about Moria of old), I don't see any studio eyeing such a movie as a commercially viable project. Of course, I could be wrong!
