It really ISN'T as black-and-white as "purists" vs. "Jackson fans." Different people have different POVs, and my particular POV is I didn't really like the book that much and welcomed MOST (not all) of PJ's additions. That's not saying I thought the movies were perfect, far from it, but they were very good and at times amazing. Yes, he gets carried away with the crazy stunts, the overly long "warg chase" and I agree that the two Orc villians got a little redundant at times. Particularly the way Bolg was portrayed in DOS vs BOT5A, where he goes from being a competent leader to something of a disappointment for Azog, weird! But there are things that Jackson does really well in his movies, and I feel that some of those additions really were necessary to fill in a story that IMO was a little thin in places. I don't expect many to agree with me on that, and that's cool, too.
