There's one not far from me that, due to two different items being awkwardly placed on window panels of a large storefront, ended up reading HARDWOOD AREA RUGS It became a family in-joke, so you can only imagine my amusement when years later I saw these. I worked at a sign shop for years, and we of course had our fair share of "Who let that one out without proofreading????" and such, and we had various failures, old removals and abandoned prototypes around the shop. My personal favorite was a large piece of painted plywood, masked with adhesive paper (to protect the paint between stages of production) which someone had forgotten to remove before applying the text "Temporary Entrance", thus making it a whole lot more temporary than intended (because the paper and lettering could be peeled right off). So of course we put it up permanently over our workroom entrance. Sometimes the awkwardness was the client's fault and they couldn't be talked out of it. The grammarian in me always got a laugh out of the signs which read "These doors are alarmed". Nobody else seemed to think it was quite as funny. Oh, and signs should never have sharp edges. Ever. So that picture may well have originated in an industry magazine. It's classic sign humor.
Silverlode Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known.

Lake Redman area. We laughed and laughed. People saw us, and then they decided to stop for pics, too.

You just won't be able to put it in the pen after 9pm. Please be sure to read the sign carefully.

when a sign has been there for 18 months.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
