... and In Western Lands, Bilbo's Last Song - the music from the BBC dramatisation was all rather lovely, I think Then the film ones - Into the West, The Last Goodbye, In Dreams, May it be, Misty Mountains, Gollum's Song, - and I really love the one they didn't use - Use Well the Days

I really like Galadriel's song of Eldemar, particularly the version sung by Karlienne. It is just so mournful and perfect for elves in general and specifically an elf who has seen the two trees and Eldamar and longs to return. And the tune Karlienne picked works perfectly with the words for me. So very beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxYDNz9Gav4 sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew: Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in the branches blew. Beyond the Sun, beyond the Moon, the foam was on the Sea, And by the strand of Ilmarin there grew a golden Tree. Beneath the stars of Ever-eve in Eldamar it shone, In Eldamar beside the walls of Elven Tirion. There long the golden leaves have grown upon the branching years, While here beyond the Sundering Seas now fall the Elven-tears. O Lórien! The Winter comes, the bare and leafless Day; The leaves are falling in the stream, the River flows away. O Lórien! Too long I have dwelt upon this Hither Shore And in a fading crown have twined the golden elanor. But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me, What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?

I prefer Into the West, but that's a great song. Thanks for sharing. I agree the BBC songs are fantastic. What do you think of Gwahir's song, though? It's such a noise to my ears. Perhaps that's intentional?

I've heard Karliene before, she did the Lament for Boromir that I enjoyed, but I've yet to hear a rendition of that song that reflects how it feels in the book - With Legolas and Aragorn improvising the lyrics. I'd not heard this song before, though. Her voice is a great fit for Galadriel, thanks for sharing it. Have you heard this version? https://youtu.be/QMME0k8bsKk I love these fan renditions, you can hear the same song played in so many different ways.

I suppose it must have been hard to decide what kind of music would be appropriate to a singing eagle! Overall though I do love the music from the BBC adaptation. The lament for Theoden is another favourite

From the films, in order of how much I love them:1. The Last Goodbye2. Into the West3. The Lonely Mountain4. The Edge of Night From the LOTR musical: Now and for Alwayshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxvtS9z2l9IThe Road Goes Onhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNDVF58rVYk From The Road Goes Ever On (Donald Swann)I Sit Beside the Fire and ThinkIn Western Lands (I don't actually care for the recordings of these songs, but I learned to pick out the melodies on the piano. I love them, and wish someone would make new recordings of them in a simpler singing style.) Other songs: The Evening Star (In Elven Lands--Jon Anderson and the Fellowship)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8limpHGeAM(The song that made me 'ship Earendil and Elwing.) All That is Gold (Brooks William)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq3huH0tUg0(Gorgeous setting of Bilbo's poem about Aragorn, with a little extra...) The Starlit Jewel (Broceliande)Galadriel's Lamenthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzEjHd54reI&index=8&list=PLThxZq4DcBna1JAS0W-uiMe0sGPAVzD1s(I also love "The Children's Song from Dale" and "The Lay of Nimrodel")
Some people call it fanfiction. I call it story-internal literary criticism.

1. "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late" as sung by Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's LotR:FotR. 2. Thorin's "Misty Mountains" song. My favorite arrangement vacillates between Howard Shore's in TH:AUJ and the (more complete) version composed for the Mind's Eye radio adaptation for NPR. 3. "The Road Goes Ever On" as sung by Gandalf in the film LotR:FotR.
