Hands-on photo review: The Hobbit Trilogy (German Steelbook Boxset with Bilbo's Journal) Can't Post

Hello,

I have done a photo review of the German Hobbit trilogy boxset (2D version) consisting of three steelbooks editions of The Hobbit films as well as of Bilbo's Journal. As there is a limit for photo size on this forum, I have posted it on Blu-Ray.com:

Thank you! [In reply to] Can't Post

Enjoyed that - if only to perversely torment myself over what I can't easily get in the U.S. (assuming European disks would play on a standard U.S. player). Thanks for taking the images and putting up!Smile

After getting BOFA as a U.S. "Best Buy store exclusive steelbook" wish I had worked to get the other disks as steelbooks - I like the packaging. Our BOFA steelbook disks are plain black tho.Frown

This looks like a nice set, including the journal. Moving the logo around is baffling - can't see any reason someone would do that setting up the printing.

My disk collection is all over the place in size, mostly because I aim for whatever collectible I may or may not want. So am hoping for that "mythical" super-set one day - all EEs on BR for all six movies in steelbook, with PRINTED disks and a nice collectible - Smaug, perhaps? And a nice box too.Cool

As a matter of fact, these do play fine on US players. Warner discs are region-free.

If I'm honest ... [In reply to] Can't Post

I was a little disappointed by "Bilbo's Journal". I wasn't expecting a replica of the movie prop, but I was certainly expecting something a little more substantial. I don't think the quality is all that great.

With no interest in the final movie, I had completely forgotten that I had pre-ordered the DVD. The journal was still a nice surprise when it arrived at my door last week.

One question... [In reply to] Can't Post

Are the sets subtitled in German or dubbed?

Absolutely. [In reply to] Can't Post

I might not like the film, but it's worth watching the extended edition. Some of my favourite scenes in the 5 other films have been extended/new scenes.

...after all, they are included with the discs as Ultraviolet codes. :)

As for discs, I have several redundant releases of both The Hobbit and LOTR... different media (DVD/BR), different versions (TE/SEE), different countries (US/GER)...
