** Founder’s Day Fun: A Lord of the Rings Mad Lib -- with some Tricksy Twists!
|

|
Welcome and Felicitations, Fellow Tornsibs, to the ultimate game of cheeky nonsense!! For newcomers to Mad Libs or seasoned gamesters up for some playful twists, here’s a quick explanation of how this is played: I have taken a particularly exciting passage (abrdiged) from The Lord of the Rings and placed it under lock and spell. Assorted words in this text have mysteriously disappeared (gotta stop using that elvish ink). Players then supply words to replace the parts of speech that are missing. (You will find those needed listed below.) I will present the completed story when all the blanks have been filled in. Now, here are the twists: -
Instead of numbering the words needed in the order in which they appear in the text, as is typical, I have summarized them by parts of speech. (Hopefully, this will make it easier for you.) -
Verbs are now divided into those with an object and those without. It may take a little extra thinking but it will pay off in the end! -
When I’ve collected all the words needed, I, your nefarious Maderator, will take the liberty (hey, see what I did there?) of choosing an ideal place in the text for each word submitted, all in the interest of maximum silliness. Keep an eye out for word count updates! I will post as often as I can. And for anyone who feels the need for a little re-schooling, definitions and examples are attached to each part of speech. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING RULES: A. When you submit your words, post in your subject line ONLY. For example: 2 adjectives: cold, young, 1 noun: button, 1 verb w/object –ed: fastened // B. There is no limit on the number of words you can submit but please do not exceed four words per post (‘cause more than 4 makes my eyes spin). If anything is unclear, ask! I'll do my best to explain. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Last Note: If you can’t get enough of Middle-earth-inspired Mad Libs, look for Bracegirdle’s special edition Hobbit Mad Lib on the Off-Topic Board for more Founder’s Day fun. Ready? Here we go!! Below are how many words are needed for each part of speech: VERBs With Object: 5 (9 total) With Object ending with – ed: 3 With Object ending with – ing: 1 Definition: Expresses action which affects something else. Example: Sally threw a stone. VERBs Without Object: 11 (31 total) Without Object ending with – ed: 16 With Object ending with – ing: 4 Definition: Expresses action which does not affect something else. Example: The soldier stood tall. ADJECTIVES: 18 (21 total) Adjective, color: 3 Definition: Describing word. Example: A full moon NOUN: 16 (37 total) Noun, plural: 6 Noun, body part: 3 Noun, plural, body part: 6 Noun, animal: 1 Noun, plural, animal: 1 Noun, emotion: 2 Noun, occupation: 1 Noun, musical instrument: 1 Definition: People, things, places, etc. Example: Wombat, brooch, creek ADVERBS: 3 Definition: Describing word for a verb typically ending in - ly Example: She timidly knocked on the door. MISC.: Number: 3 Exclamation: 1 Nonsense word: 1 Let the madness ensue! Have fun, everyone!!

*** [spoken:] Once upon a time in Arda, First Age… Beren, on the run from the Dark, Its Sudden-Flame strike Came down on his life, lived rough, So rough, Luthien was out in the glade, She ran from the Man, His limbs stayed by chains of love, Of love. But Thingol said to hold on, What have you got? You can’t just have the Princess, that is asking a lot. You’ll fetch the jewels from ol’ Morgoth, for love, Or have her you’ll not! Whoa, if that’s your will, Whoa, this I will fulfill! In my hand from the Crown, a Silmaril, Whoa, this I will fulfill! This I will fulfill! * * * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwk
