there are areas of countryside not far from where I live that do look like the Shire, and other parts of Middle earth, and I have a great fondness for them. I've been driving in North Wales today, enjoying the woods, fields, little rivers etc - and a little further away rise rugged mountains where one could imagine the stone giants hurling rocks at each other. Many contrasts, within a day trip's drive of my home.
