My biggest disappointment in that scene was not seeing a "molten gold" [In reply to] Can't Post

cleaned Smaug who could reveal his dazzling colors and gems as he
shook off the "gold spa scale bath therapy" as he rose into the sky.

re an earlier discussion I had [In reply to] Can't Post

one poster's issue wasn't the strategy, but that the depth of the molten gold was so great that it completely covered Smaug.

Well, for me, that's a point - tho Smaug is rather "worm-like" and that's a lot of gold being funneled into a relatively walled space.

In the end, last time I watched DOS, I decided I was good with it, because Smaug just looks so spectacular and it's such a nice nod to the concept of the "golden dragon" re Asia.

I love Smaug and my appreciation for him has grown with repeat views. The Laketown sequence - when I stop frames - is unbelievable. Every single frame.HeartHeartHeartHeartHeart
Not having hundreds of awards for this work IMO is a travesty.Mad

Also like that PJ didn't linger and linger on Smaug's demise. It's just right, IMO. Even Smaug falling into the lake is perfectionHeartHeartHeart
