IMAGE LARD - BOFA DVD caps (no Alfrid or tears or *those* scenes tho)

It was just supposed to be a *few* caps - ahem. But I thought those waiting might enjoy the sharing - OK, granted, mysteriously these seem to be heavily slanted towards Thorin and the dwarves, it's like the power of the Ring tho re Thorin - and anyway the Mountain King is ridiculously photogenic (as are his Heirs ) (AND I love Ryan Gage and his Alfrid. But I tried to pick shots that were not PR and were a bit different, or stuff that goes by so fast you might miss it. Er, like dwarves.) BUT - in all seriousness IMO in going through the DVD, for all any "issues" I may have, it struck me: 1) What PJ has done - visually is so gorgeous, rich, and complex it's almost like you have to watch this film frame by frame to appreciate it. 2) Some great fight choreography - especially Thorin's - and a major ovation from me, as Thorin is a thing of beauty to watch - but he, and Thranduil and the others like Tauriel - well, I just hope *sigh* the EE has more. 3) The rendering of the animals - elk and rams - up close is jaw-dropping (went by too fast in the theaters to appreciate). Anyway, tried to keep these kind of in order, so:

(OK - we were robbed. ROBBED. I mean Thorin justifiably gets a lot of fuss but *thud*) Think I need the oxygen after all... Well, yeah. Thorin's upset about that floor..... ANYWAY:

Lovely caps. That scene of Thorin and Dwalin

struck me when I watched it last night: "AM I NOT KING!?" roars Thorin. And I feel like its one of those self-answering statements, sort of like when you scream *I AM NOT MAKING A SCENE*!! because, de facto, clearly you are. And if you have to bellow that you are King...hmmm... maybe not. A great sign of the crack in his character, especially at someone so stonily loyal as Dwalin.

(One thing that struck me re these end battles, how much care was given to scale - e.g. none of the dwarves ever suddenly look "like men" the orcs are huge against them - kudos to PJ & WETA!!!!)

One thing I noticed doing these clips - re that scene - Thorin LOOKS ill, too. It's a chilling scene IMO and breaks my heart too.

Which, I suppose, he is at that moment. I also love the shot of Dain you posted! He looks great! I am still happily surprised at how much I like and accept him.

Nice collection, thanks so much for posting all of these. One thing I noticed when I watched last night was all of the quick shots of the dwarves as they start to fight in the battle, which you were able to capture for quite a few. And an awesome moment in hair acting in that shot of Thorin right before the one of Nori - such commitment to the moment.

A thought: you see how the pupil in the fiery eye is the human shape of Sauron? What are the chances that it was designed this way as PJ's answer to 'is the eye on the tower an artefact or the literal manifestation of Sauron' question? (The answer being, 'artefact'.)
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I love the choices you made, so many special moments in this film that fly by so fast while watching in the theater. Thursday was the last day for BOTFA here at our cheap show, so now I have to start watching my own DVD copy, which has been sitting here since Tuesday while I kept going to the theater to say "good-bye" to the Hobbit (and telling myself each time, "OK, this is the LAST time I'm driving over here to see this"). And I wasn't the only one - there were some other fans there on Thursday, watching it one last time and sitting through the credits, so that was nice to see. It's great to have the DVD, but these movies are just so spectacular on the big screen that I feel sad to think I may never see them in the theater again. But of course, the up side is that 'pause' button. So much to look at.

Wonderful stuff. Thanks so much for doing these. Makes you realise what a triumph this film is when it isn't rushing past at a rate of knots and you can actually see it. You have caught some wonderful moments there. The one of Bilbo looking through the mithril coat caught my eye particularly. And so many lovely expressions. And dwarves fighting. And the hair of the Heirs. *The mouse settles down in the teapot to admire the pretty pictures.....*

Avandel, you have really got a keen eye for details! Dean would approve Thank you for these wonderful photos, they are really special and they make me think about the visual beauty of this film... and the wonderful closeups, sometimes lost with such a fast pace... I needed them (btw I haven't seen Botfa for several weeks now, and some details were fading away from my memory). Well done!!

For me there was a real danger yesterday in 'capping EVERY luscious moment of ESPRESSO hair acting, which I had been aware of, but overwhelmed by Richard Armitage's performance. However, w. low sound and moving from frame to frame, I was confronted with so many roiling black chocolate flowing swirls, and silk-tossed nightshadow manes tangling across the most beautiful eyes of clear deep azure and curtaining 'round sculpted strong features and the crimson-stain'd fair skin (combined with a frame clad in dark leather w. those quilted gloves) - well, all I can say is there are moments when time just stops, when I know I have found Niravana, when I realize if I ever met PJ and WETA I would simply throw myself at their feet weeping tears of gratitude (meeting RA would probably result in just unconsciousness) . I idly thought that perhaps a contest of AUJ vs. DOS vs. BOFA hair acting might be suitable, but as visions of breeze-caressed tumbling cafe noir pilosity lingered in whatever brain cells are left after watching the BOFA BR, I realized, not. It's too complex of a subject. But possibly a suitable slide show for an evening River presentation, provided we alert medical facilities for miles around ahead of time. Any cases of spontaneous combustion can simply be tossed into the River, so that works well.
