With a nice, soft lead and a soft area to grip. In fact, I bought this particular pencil for my 2004 trip to New Zealand. I took notes of various things in a tiny notebook. I still use it every day. As an Engineer for 29 years, I always found that lots of changes always had to be accommodated so a pencil & Steadler (sp?) eraser were a must. I used to prefer the wooden no. 2 pencils. Now that I'm a Supplier Program Manager, I continue to use pencil & eraser because for every three people you talk to, you get four or five different responses before you get close to the real story.
