Walk to Rivendell - and Beyond!

Welcome to this week's edition of the Walk, where we're currently celebrating Frodo's journey through Middle Earth by journeying through this Earth. Where have you been this past week? What's gotten you moving? My progress: Miles covered this week: 17 Cumulative miles: 252 Goal: Bag End to Rivendell Well, my mileage is heading back in the right direction. I discovered that I forgot to adjust an equation in my spreadsheet, so there's a jump in my cumulative mileage to reflect what I've actually done this month. All of which means I'm past Weathertop - woohoo! Beamer (my daughter) and I have been out walking the neighborhood helping her reach her sales goal with the extended Girl Scout cookie sale (two extra weeks, long story); and my Hobbit (son) has been racing around on various of his wheeled conveyances - roller blades, bike, scooter - with the improved weather we're having here in Colorado. And I really shouldn't be trusted with fiddly things like spreadsheet equations, laundry, or remembering meetings when the Girl Scout cookie sale has been extended. My brain gets too mooshy. Arandiel Resources The Walk with the Fellowship Challenge The Eowyn Challenge Useful links, including mileage charts compiled by the late Karen Wynn Fonstad, are on the Tools page. grammaboodawg's awesome site includes helpful activity conversion charts, mileages for Bilbo's Hobbitty journey home, and the Walk to Rivendell's TORn-up Postcards Notta's Super-Duper Walking-Equivalents Chart Eowyn Challenge Login Page is useful for keeping track of mileage, though be sure to keep a backup record, in case Warg attack, Wizard-induced blizzard, or other fell calamity causes the Shields page to crash. The Eowyn Challenge/Walk to Rivendell - and Beyond! is a Middle-Earth-related fitness group that began in March 2003, and has been going on with walkers around the world ever since. TORn's Walk is open to all people and healthy types of activity.

The dwarves and I are still getting our feet underneath as as we begin our journey towards the Lonely Mountain. The Old Forest just showed up to the south of us. I've suggested we cut through there - I mean, it's still basically in the Shire, what could possibly go wrong? But Worrywortalf put on his Wizardy voice and said "Bilbo Bagginses! There are deeper and fouler things in the Old Forest than just a Sackville-Baggins!". Well, blah, blah, blah, whatever. But we're still on the road for now. I've gotten in some good runs this week and faithfully held off on the snacking, so my progress is rapid for now... My progress: Miles covered this week: 48 Cumulative miles: 58 Goal: Dragons, and TREASURE! Notta
Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

And, yeah, Gandalf does tend to doom-and-gloom it a bit, doesn't he? Though, that Old Forest is kinda spooky. Happy running!

Hey Arandiel.... I'm totally with you on stats, numbers, spreadsheets and such things. I'm TERRIBLE at it! But they're always easy to double-check and fix. So I TOTALLY trust and appreciate how great you're doing and taking care of us :D They weather has NOT been cooperating... it's COLD again! But I'm doing some major cleaning and carrying boxes, furniture and years of "stuff" for a montrous yard sale this summer. I'm calling it "A 40-years of Hoarding Extravaganza" It'll be like a 10-family sale! On the Road with the Fellowship... we're still making miles away from Weathertop and making for Rivendell. Lots to go, Lots already done :) Thanks so much for keeping us on the Road Arandiel! And WELL DONE Beamer & Hobbit! Miles covered: 31 miles Cumulated miles: 301 CHALLENGE: The Lord of the Rings Walk with the Fellowship Challenge!
