I enjoyed that twice as much as anyone might expect, and understood it less than half as well as I deserved.

A heartbreaking work of staggering genius. I knew my laziness would benefit the world. Laugh

Balrog is such gritty reality with sublime symbolism. I think we should start discussing it in the RR, in truth.

The balrog story [In reply to] Can't Post

is engaging, granted, and has many deep subtexts worth exploring.
However, I can't help feeling that is is somehow very derivative.

Its good to be the Muse. [In reply to] Can't Post

Muses work all day long and then at night get together and dance. (Edgar Degas said that. I can see it.)

I will be suprised and impressed if anyone can identify the source.

Really? [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought everyone knew the source of that! "Bored of the Rings", of course, the footnote on page xviii "(Either Arglebargle IV or someone else.").

No, seriously, that's not the Appendices to LotR, so my guess would be one of the HoME volumes that I've not read. Or the instructions for War of the North.

The quote was from Rivendell, the latest published suppliment for The One Ring Roleplaying Game, covering the valley of Imladris and the region Eastern Eriador. I've been using it in the development of a home-brewed TOR adventure set in the Blue Mountains.

That goes quite a bit into the history of Middle-earth - is your scenario in the "past"?

My Blue Mountains adventure. [In reply to] Can't Post

The setting would be the Northern Ered Luin in the years between, say, TA 2950 and 2979. The goal for the company is to find a way through an old dwarf-mine (briefly formerly occupied by King Arvendui of Arthedain and his followers) around the collapsed portions of the ancient dwarven city of Belegost to locate a vault that contains Nimphelos, the great pearl given to the Dwarves of Belegost by Thingol as payment for the delving of Menegroth. Along the way the company will encounter White Wolves, Spectres, and other perils.
