Mine is 'I'm a Believer' [In reply to] Can't Post

The Monkees version, which I can't stand. I'll take the Neil Diamond version though.
I'd love to know what the number one song was in NZ at the time I was born, but the archives are very sketchy and inaccurate. The most likely candidates are Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys, and Stop Stop Stop by The Hollies, both of which are vastly preferable to The Monkees.

I do remember "I'm a believer".... [In reply to] Can't Post

...and the Monkees - I liked it, but I was just a kid. I went to one of their concerts with some schoolfriends. First pop concert ever - my dad took us to all the entrance and collected us there afterwards. I enjoyed it but couldn't understand why everyone else seemed to be screaming.......

When I was a child, I watched The Monkees TV show [In reply to] Can't Post

I had no idea the programme was ancient repeats. When they sang, "...we may be coming to your town..." in the theme tune, I would hope they might come and play in our school hall, in the rural South Island of NZ. I tended to take things fairly literally.Laugh

I hang on to my first gig experience, which was The Clash in 1982. No one can take away the coolness of that! I was only allowed to go on the condition that I went with my older cousin and went in the upstairs section. It was pretty wild down below.

Sorry you didn't like the game [In reply to] Can't Post

But yes, I think the coolness of your first concert more than balances out the lack of coolness of you birthday song. Laugh

You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning 'round
