Like me? I waited two hours monitoring the wait room to be eventually told all badges for all days were sold out. How do you who have gone maximize your chances of getting badges to this event? Anyway no big Tolkien events are scheduled this year so no loss but I imagine the theonering.net will have a presence there. I'm so angry now! I guess with about 10 years of active life left I'll never go! I'm hating life big time now.

I, too, waited patiently, but the badges sold out before I was "selected"

which has become the norm rather than the exception ever since they decided to give the previous year's attendees first crack at badge sales. Once those folks have bought their badges, the remainder are opened up to the public via the wait room. I have not been able to get a badge for years and years now. I live in Carlsbad and used to attend pretty regularly until they came up with the current crazy and (to me) extremely lopsided system that creates a giant clique of the same core attendees year after year. The Comic-Con badge process is inherently unfair. The bigger problem is that the Con has opted to remain in the relatively small San Diego Convention Center even though it outgrew that venue years ago. Oh well. There's always Wonder Con up the road in Anaheim - more room, no problem getting a badge, and much of the same stuff as Comic-Con.

This sounds ridiculous! Balticon and Philcon are two of the best on the east coast, have venues that are large enough to hold everyone comfortably, are easy to get to, have parking (free) at the hotel, and you simply order your membership/badge/ticket ahead of time... or buy at the door for more. Your con should move to a larger venue and stop this moronic system. Well, if you can pay for plane fare, come east...
