Vote for Sam as the all-time greatest second banana Can't Post

Grantland is running a humorous poll to find the all-time greatest sidekick. Samwise Gamgee is a 12 seed in the Lou Costello region (find him in the upper right bracket, squared off against Robin Quivers of ewww, Howard Stern fame - nice contrast). Click on the pairing and then vote for Sam on the window that pops up - he's currently losing.

We've got to give him something for hauling Frodo up Mt Doom.

Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

You may notice that there is no #1 seen in any of the brackets - but there are two #2 seeds... :) // [In reply to] Can't Post

Me neither, but [In reply to] Can't Post

it looks like Samwise has already advanced to the next round (yay!). Maybe the voting hasn't opened up for that yet?

** Update: Sam makes it to round 2, voting opens later today ** [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks, I'm sure, to a big TORN boost, Sam beat out Robin Quivers almost 2-1 in round 1.

In round 2, Sam is up against the #4 seed in his bracket, John Stockton - a long time and very popular basketball player in the USA. That's going to be a tough matchup, because Grantland is first and foremost a USA sports website, a branch off of ESPN.

Voting doesn't seem to be open yet, but probably will be in a few hours. Look for Samwise Gamgee near the top right corner of the brackets.

Well done, TORNSIBS, keep it up!

Voting is now open, Sam is losing [In reply to] Can't Post

It's a close battle, but Stockton is up 6000-5000.

It was a good battle, but poor Sam was ousted in the second round [In reply to] Can't Post

He lost to John Stockton 10788-8868. As expected, Stockton, a famous basketball player in the USA, was a tough out on a primarily USA sports website.

Regardless, well done, TORNadoes! Samwise pulled an upset in round 1, and gave a tough battle to a tough opponent and much higher seed in round 2.
