Good news, the letter that Gandalf gave to Butterbur was delivered to Frodo safely on time. Bad news, there was no dramatic rescue of Gandalf from Isengard by the chief of the Eagles. I wonder how that might have altered the story!

three months earlier, has a cake-walk to Rivendell to visit Bilbo. Gives the Ring to Elrond who in turn gives it to Glorfindel, who in turn gives it to Gwaihir, who flies to Mordor and drops it in the Sammath Naur. All is well in Middle-earth. . . except – Crazy

Gandalf starves to death atop Orthanc while gazing at shining Earendil Frown - Oh, my, and oh well – he was going to die anyway atop Zirak-zigal. Only now there’s no reason for his resurrection as all is well in Middle-earth, and we can return to the Ivy Bush for a pint and some small talk. Tongue
