I think it's a great achievement for Peter and his team

Wow! Just name me one single filmmaker (besides James Cameron perhaps) whos films have grossed such a pile of gold like Peter Jacksons did. Wow! Great numbers and a huge success. Although the critics on the Hobbit trilogy weren't as amazing as the ones for the Lord of the Rings trilogy... who cares? Peter makes movies for his audience and what better proof that he succeeded than these following numbers? $1,017,003,568 (AUJ) $0,960,366,855 (DOS) $0,939,313,000 (BOTFA) --------------------- $2,916,683,423 (Hobbit trilogy) $0,871,530,324 (FOTR) $0,926,047,111 (TTT) $1,119,929,521 (ROTK) ---------------------------- $2,917,506,956 (LOTR trilogy) Let the critics write and talk these (Hobbit) movies down... Making six movies and recieving almost six billion dollars in return... It's quite a success and speaks it's own language. Congratulation Peter Jackson! You deserve it... and now give us the EE for BOTFA because there a couple of things I'm still waiting to see before I'll leave Middle-earth ;-)

But i agree, it's a pretty big accomplishment on PJ's part. Especially when you remember that this is the man who made movies like Braindead in his early days.

I mean, I really love this man, and to see his work receiving such deserved appreciation from the public in spite of so many of the critics shredding those films to pieces, just fills me with glee!... Thanks forsharing the news, blackfox!

... on different things. If you take all of Spielbergs and all of Jacksons movies... you're right. If you look at adjusted ticket price inflation... you're be right as well. BUT if you only take the actual numbers their six most successful films, Jackson wins. I just looked 5 of the most successful directors up and compared their numbers. I took the adjusted and the unadjusted ones: Steven Spielberg (27 films as a director) Lifetime gross (adjusted): $8,567.2 million Average gross (adjusted): $317.3 million Lifetime gross (unadjusted): $9,011.5 million Average gross (unadjusted): $333.8 million George Lucas (6 films as a director) Lifetime gross (adjusted): $3,721.9 million Average gross (adjusted): $620.3 million Lifetime gross (unadjusted): $3,094.9 million Average gross (unadjusted): $515.8 million Peter Jackson (12 films as a director) Lifetime gross (adjusted): $2,638.3 million Average gross (adjusted): $219.9 million Lifetime gross (unadjusted): $6,501.9 million Average gross (unadjusted): $541.8 million James Cameron (9 films as a director) Lifetime gross (adjusted): $3,059.5 million Average gross (adjusted): $339.9 million Lifetime gross (unadjusted): $6,138.9 million Average gross (unadjusted): $682.1 million Michael Bay (11 films as a director) Lifetime gross (adjusted): $2,763.7 million Average gross (adjusted): $251.2 million Lifetime gross (unadjusted): $5,759.1 million Average gross (unadjusted): $523.6 million Notes: Jackson is second if you take the lifetime gross (unadjusted). But if you look at the numbers of sold tickets Spielberg wins while George Lucas sold more tickets for each of his 6 movies while James Cameron made the most of the money per movie.

It opened in South Korea some weeks ago, and actually did better than the previous two films, although the figures have not been updated for some time to show exactly how much it made.

Additionally, PJ has taken the $$$ & Invested in the MOST ADVANCED Production Facilities in the World... PJ has PUSHED Hollywood into second place, which is an IDEA that likely NEVER entered Hollywood's mind before. ONE more thing, Industry Types in many fields like Cameramen Lighting Technicians, etc.. study his Videos BECAUSE he gives away.... his Secrets for FREE,there. Many who worked on LOTR applied what they learned to MAKE Cinema History in more ways than we will ever know. IT is MOST likely that PJ will always remain a Force in Film-making, for many years. Bom has the Sneaky suspicion?.. that Miramar is BOOKED even Further into the Future, after Cameron has Finished his Avatar Series there. YEAH PJ...PJ RULES!...

With every *fuzzy* and un-fuzzy BOFA image I see, or every interview I come across re these films. So I can click through every frame of my favorite scenes, and DROOL over Thranduil's elk (so beautifully rendered looks like an image from my books brought to life, as does Thranduil for that matter) and those quilted leather dwarf gauntlets (I have a FETISH now...) PLZ let me spend more on the Hobbit films! Worth every penny of the JOY they have brought.

It would be doing much better than that, but unfortunately just as it was gathering steam it left most of its theaters (it is down to less than 5% of theaters). It probably will only do another $5 million or so for a final total of about $120 million (which is what I predicted in the first place). It could have been a lot better, however, it hadn't had such a drastic and sudden theater reduction.

…but the runs in cinemas were far too short as far as I can see. They took it out of my local big cinema IMAX screens (in the UK) after just three weeks, even though the screenings were still really crowded (and to replace it with Taken, of all things, which really didn't need IMAX screenings). I suppose the number of weeks at which films will run are all determined well in advance, but it seems that the runs were somewhat miscalculated for this film. Warners, again?

to when it hits Blu-Ray/DVD anymore is around 120 days. So that plays a part in it I would say. I only got to see it three times myself, which I am not happy about but I'll get a few more in on Blu.

Announced a couple of years ago that they were going to cut down how long films would appear in theaters. This is due to the fact that they get most of their cum in the first 3 to 4 weeks as after that more and more of the ticket price goes to the theaters. Also they get a bigger profit on the sale of each DVD/Blu Ray than they do from each ticket. It is called maximizing profit.
