What was your favourite, practical scenery Can't Post

In the Hobbit trilogy.(Yes, i know they're scarce.)

Mine would have to be Bree.It brought warm feelings for me in DOS.

We are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.

To pick Rhosgobel. I think I'd like to live there. The tree, the animals, even its general clutter appeals to me. I love the forest, too. Though I could do without some of the neighbors.
Radagast would be an interesting roommate, too. My critters would be welcomed, though I wouldn't let my birds live on my head. Laugh

Not sure what is meant by 'practical scenery' [In reply to] Can't Post

However, my favourite 'scenery' was probably Beorn's house and Bilbo's house, and of the larger 'scenery' places like the Dwarves' halls, waterfalls at Rivendell, Goblintown and Lake-town.

I'm assuming the OP means actual physical sets, not akmost exclusively CGI ones... [In reply to] Can't Post

...like Goblin Town or the Elvening's Halls.

My favourite will always be the studio part of the Rivendell set, closely followed by Beorn's House. Smile

Or locations? [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought Laketown was excellently realized, for example. Lots of it was built as an outdoor set in the studio parking lot, but I was not sure if that is, or is not, "practical scenery" in the words of the OP.

Hobbiton, of course, but also.. [In reply to] Can't Post

That area where The Company was on horseback ("ponies") and we hear Gandalf describing how Bilbo was born to the Shire...her little rivers...and that Bilbo will have to do without a handkerchief... That area is so beautiful to me. I can't wait to go there in person. It just touches my soul the way my picture of lake Takepo (probably misspelled that again) still does, the way the stained glass windows of Notre Dame with the mid morning sun shining through did, like some music from these Jackson-Tolkien movies do, and the way the music from the Narnia movies do, the way an Arizona sunrise or sunset does. These things are like prayer to me. Like proof of Gods beautiful creations. Like His answers are hidden gems inside.

A few of my favorites [In reply to] Can't Post

(assuming "practical" simply means not green screen)
  • High Fells where Gandalf does his rock climbing
  • Beorn's house
  • The mountain scenery behind Beorn's house in the EE (although if I remember correctly, they had to green-screen it because of rain and digitally put in the scenery they'd filmed earlier)
  • The scenery around the Carrock where the Eagles fly
  • The lupine field where Beorn's "ponies" romp
  • The Laketown set--I love detailed set dressing
  • Dale (pre-Smaug)

And my personal favorite: Hobbiton/Bag End Heart

Hmm [In reply to] Can't Post

I basically love any moment in the trilogy that is on location with the beauty of New Zealand that they talk so much about, but use green screens in favor of.

Like the glimpse of the Company riding to the enterance to Mirkwood. Or the Lake Town Four climbing up to Erebor. Or the Company's journey from Rivendell to the Stone Giants scene. I quite loved Erebor, but obviously that was all green screen and a bit too hard to create in real life Laugh (Coulda' hoped for more sets, but alright.)
