Aren't they the ones that carry credit cards? [In reply to] Can't Post

Although the credit card company can't remember why they do carry credit cards. I thought this was really funny!

patricia rozema's mansfield park [In reply to] Can't Post

the first time i watched it, i was thrown. it wasn't at all what i expected. but i rewatched it many times, and it has become one of my favorite films. it's a more serious take on austen, and does not shy away from the very real horror of slavery (in the antiguq plantations in which lord burtram had financial interests). austen's actual writing does not deal with that aspect, which is rather a large hole, but she might not have been as educated about that situation, and all the disgusting and inhumane details.

cheers --

aka. fili orc-enshield
+++++++++++++++++++
the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield."

this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo
