No one – because no such thing would take place [In reply to] Can't Post

The worms don't appear to be built for fighting, in any case.

Worms! [In reply to] Can't Post

As they would just dig through the giants themselves!

They "eat" rocks. [In reply to] Can't Post

How could they not eat through a Stone Giant (let alone eat up the ground underneath the Free Peoples' Armies)?!

"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien

We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

Stone giants! [In reply to] Can't Post

They'd use the were-worms to play tug-of-war

Wereworm Jim! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wereworm Jim,
We Think He's Mighty Fine!
Wereworm Jim,
A Hero For All Time!

Groovy!

******************************************
The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

At what? Tiddlywinks? [In reply to] Can't Post

If yes, then I think the worms might win, having (apparently) smallish mouth parts. If the tiddlywinks were big enough.

Chess would be a non-starter - the giants would crush the pieces.

But if you're thinking of cricket I'd place bets on the giants. Bit clumsy, perhaps, but the worms couldn't run....

Not a nit to be picked as far as I'm concerned [In reply to] Can't Post

I shouldn't think they would move rapidly enough to engage with Stone Giants.

As for 'eat up the ground underneath' something, I would imagine their ability to do this it would depend on the constituency of the ground, and/or whether it was advisable to do this in the middle of an army.
