Any "homages" to Rankin/Bass?

PJ clearly used some scenes from Ralph Bakshi's take on LOTR for his own LOTR trilogy. Did anyone notice any obvious scenes that were taken from the Rankin/Bass Hobbit?

I think I read somewhere that he hasn't even seen those movies. That might have been years ago though.

Nothing as obvious as the Bakshi LOTR moments anyway.
"BOTH [political] extremes are dangerous. But more dangerous are team fanboys who think all the extremists are on the OTHER side." (CNN reader comment) It is always those with the fewest sensible things to say who make the loudest noise in saying them. --Precious Ramotswe (Alexander McCall Smith)

if he was going to have Bakshi moments he could have at least had a big lion wearing fluffy boots for a Balrog.

As flawed as it is, I'd reckon PJ was more influenced by it than he'd care to admit. While he's only ever really acknowledged the "Proudfeet!" moment as a direct homage to the film, there are some pretty obvious scenes and narrative details PJ lifted from the '78 film (be it consciously or not): - the Hobbits' first encounter with one of the Ringwraiths is staged almost exactly the same (though PJ's execution is admittedly considerably better) - the Ringwraiths slashing what they believe to be the Hobbits in their beds in their room at the Prancing Pony; this is particularly notable since this event does not occur in the book (and, again, PJ stages it better, particularly by intercutting the wraiths with the Hobbits themselves as it's about to happen) - replacing Glorfindel with another Elf; Bakshi used Legolas, but PJ at least stayed closer to canon by using Arwen - the similar way that Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli attack the White Wizard (whom they still believe to be Saruman) with their weapons only to have them deflected and Gandalf revealing his new incarnation to them - replacing Erkenbrand with Éomer as commander of the wandering Rohirrim army whom Gandalf tracks down and brings to the Battle of Helm's Deep to help turn the tide - ending "Two Towers" at the exact same point Bakshi ended his film, i.e. the end of the Battle of Helm's Deep, and Gollum scheming to lead Frodo and Sam into Shelob's lair The only things in this trilogy that I can see as being remotely homages to the '77 Rankin/Bass film are Bilbo observing the butterflies above the canopy of Mirkwood, and Gandalf's final words to Bilbo upon leaving him at the borders of the Shire.
