Do you find yourself... Can't Post

... giving Middle-earthy names to things in the real world? (I don't mean naming your cat Thrandy or your house Rivendell etc., but generic names). Here are some of mine:
Those cropped trousers that come halfway down the shins: Hobbit-trousers
Bulfinches (a small, very fat and circular British bird): Bomburs
Windblown rags of black bin-bags that get caught in the tops of trees: Nazgul's knickers
Rutilated quartz: Galadriel's hair

I tend to use Hobbit or Hobbit-sized a lot.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Also references to Gandalf. Oh - and mathom (though I usually have to explain that one). But I like your list. Nazgul's knickers is very expressive and conjures up the perfect image! Cool

similar but different [In reply to] Can't Post

I play Scrabble a lot on my Kindle and I am always finding myself forming words from ME (or Harry Potter) but then getting annoyed that the computer won't accept them as words.

Ha! I do that too! [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't play as much, as a consequence. Those things should accept new word input, just like Spellcheck!

Eggs at our house are almost always "eggses". [In reply to] Can't Post

And there are places in our local mountains that I call Lothlorien and Rivendell, and there's a fat squirrel in my backyard that I call Fatty Lumpkin, but those might not fit your criterion.

I'm going to start using "Nazgul's knickers". :-D

I've been known to mumble, "What's it got in its pocketses?"

I do [In reply to] Can't Post

I use the word "mathom" often, as well as the word "faunt". Also often say "precioussss" and so forth. Also, any pony my hubby and I spot when out riding around in the car is "Bill the Pony". There are other things as well, but they are often spur of the moment, so I don't tend to recall them.

(I know you said not pets, but my cat is Miss Belladonna Took".)

In place of more colourful metaphors... [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been known to mutter in Elvish and Black Speech. The number of strange stares you get are totally worth it! Angelic

On another note, I've found use for some less-common words I discovered in Tolkien: rick, cot, byre, copse, spinney, and others.

A few times [In reply to] Can't Post

My dad is a lot taller than me so I have to really adjust the seat if I borrow his van. We call it "hobbit-izing" the seat.
Recently I was surprised to find a bunch of friends sitting in our living room when I got home from class. I had forgotten we had invited them over for dinner. One fellow Tolkien fan called it an unexpected party and we decided to invite a few more people so we could have the proper number. Laugh

People who love to stay home and life a simple life are hobbity (c'est moi!)
Every time I buy a bag of apples... I mumble "Apples for walkin'"
Chunky crackers or small pastries are cram or lembas (depends on if I like 'em or not ;)
