Here's a pic of Benedict in very traditional Sherlock garb, going to the set of the new Sherlock special. I don't like the short haircut though! Give me the long locks back! THANK YOU Dernwyn and Magpie for telling me how to insert a pic!!!

I have a weakness for that period Sherlock garb. Wonder what they are doing with it?

Mr. Gillette being the famous stage actor of last century who created this "look" for Sherlock Holmes. (Where I live, he's a "local hero".) Looks like Benedict is wearing somewhat more modern clothing underneath, though! Did you see the promo pic, with Martin sporting a mustache and bowler?

That's my absolute favorite copy of Holmes, with all the original Sydney Paget drawings.

Perhaps that can't be seen in this photo. Also, his trousers are striped. And yes I did see that pic of Watson with the bowler hat and mustache! It's going to be a period piece, I would imagine. What fun!!! As much as I love Benedict in pretty much whatever he does, I think his Sherlock is his crowning glory so far; he absolutely makes the show. The fact that he hasn't received a BAFTA for it, and practically every other aspect of the series has (although he's been nominated many times), is baffling. Jonesing for Sherlock!!

Are in period costumes for this shoot including Amanda and Martin who has a handlebar mustache. This is the shoot for the Christmas special this year. Will be interesting to see what plays out!

I have a set of the books with his illos in them... and he also understood exactly how to draw horses (a ridiculous rarity today).

... they find the tardis in their backyard and time travel... PS, also really really fond of Sherlock's, uh, shaggy locks... Sher-locked.

And how nice to see that clip from the silent film! Thank you. I noticed only one error in the article: the "enormous castle in North Carolina" is actually a quaint stone castle along the Connecticut River, where he also moored a houseboat and built a small-scale railroad for entertaining (i.e., frightening to death by running at full throttle) his guests. You can tour the castle, and the grounds are perfect for an afternoon walk! Gillette did, though, have a second house in North Carolina.

Basil Rathbone remains the favorite Holmes of one of my friends. I read the books back in high school or some such, and loved them then. Of course, I treasure the BBC Sherlock....
