About their "Wire Work"? Can't Post

In The Theaters & Arenas work as a Union Stagehand
Bomby has done much
Rigging of Scenery, Aisle Signs
to locate people in Massive Conventions,
MANY Massive Speaker & Lighting arrays for Major Rock & Roll.

That's why Engineers train us in Wire tolerances,
even doing Math problems to make sure people aren't HURT.
{ I came close once, too!}

It is similar to Rock Climbing, where anytime you go over 8 feet in the Air,
OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Agency)
has STRICT rules..You have to wear a Harness, Clipped in to Something permanent...

In the Production, Most ALL of the Actors needed wires.
BUT Leggy Wore....A Gimbal

{A Gimbal is a pivoted support that allows the rotation of an object about a single axis.}

Much of these Films have performed well, but the Ones?
Like Leggys Impossible Stunts @ Ravenhill..LOOKed pretty
BAD.

bom does have the Utmost Respect for Glenn Boswell
{An Aussie who was in charge of all StuntWORK}

Cool thing is... PJ even GAVE HIM.. a Cameo?
He is the Dwarve who first uncovers the Arkenstone in the AUJ prologue.

He & Terry Notary, Movement coach did a TOP Notch Job
because these FILMS are one loonnnng Series of STUNTS!

It's funny what production details Ol' Bom looks for..

Legolas in DOS [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Bomby - in that scene in the DOS EE appendices when they showed how Legolas jumped up onto the bridge and then had to turn and shoot the orc, was that a gimbal? I hadn't thought about it before, but I guess turning while wearing wires might be tricky.

I hope we get lots more behind the scenes info in the BOTFA EE. I especially enjoyed seeing how the barrels were done, and thought that contraption they rigged up for Orlando Bloom to stand on to simulate standing on the dwarves' heads was incredibly clever.

Another Backstage Note that MIGHT be Interesting... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Chains & Cables that moved the Ore around
in the Forges & the Deep Caverns was fascinating
from a Theater & Film perspective.

In the very early 1970's the Band "KISS" wanted to hang their
Huge Speakers in the AIR for Arena Rock. So, they hired a
Structural Engineer from Seattle, Washington named Harry
Donovan. Over the years on the road with many, many Bands, he
Hung over 250,000 Points without one FALL.

A Point is Calculated with Lazer Pointers now & marked with Chalk.
This allows the Arrays to be lifted by Chain Motors, to place Lights
& Speakers Aimed either
@ the ACT or the
Audience...

Bom took a three day seminar from him, which was HEAVY MATH.
He is now Retired...because He Finally did FALL, sometime ago.
BUT? much of what he learned & taught..
is USED Everyday by this Next Generation of Backstage Help, like Glenn Boswell.

Bom could NOT help thinking of him,

when the Dwarves in the Prologue were mining deep
into the Mountain... in Little Seat Buckets.

One Note!.., Gloin's BIG Hero Moment?

...was when He CUT a Huge Cable,
that wrapped up Smaug in Cable
& ORE Buckets, long enough for Thorin to
board? his way onto the TOP of his

..MAD Grandfather's un-finished
"Celebration of Himself"...
The Golden Statue?

This is a bit of a weird Backstage perspective from Retired Rigger
bom

Yes, I think it was a Gimbal... [In reply to] Can't Post

BUT, the way they shot Leggy
on top of the Dwarves Heads in "Barrels"
was not.

Not sure if this something new or
NOT.

The Flying Eagle was a New Rig, so likely
ONCE again, PJ & Crew are pushing
The Outer Limits of Film work everywhere.

Seems they may have borrowed much from
Mechancial Horses that BUCK
for the Eagle.

This Type of STUFF, will continue to branch off
into So many areas of work.

There other thingiezz Bom that looked
familiar from Backstage work,
but can't remember now.

Anyone have any questions, feel free to ask.

Your "Stagehand Spy" also thinks it is... [In reply to] Can't Post

Ingrid, { who was Evie Lily's Stuntie }

Appears? Standing to the Left of Thranny..
In Frame, when he Stops to Confront
Tauriel...?
Not sure, since whoever that
is
is Not NAMED
in the Credits.

Seems PJ wanted MUCH his Backstage Crew
to get some Screen-Time TOO!

AIN'T That cool...

...which is "Very.... Not Hollywood"...

Much of the
Failure of the OLD "Hollywood SYSTEM", is a Colossal..
FLOP?
