The intro shot of each film represents the film itself, IMO

The intro shot of each film represents the film itself, IMO Can't Post

FotR - We hear elven spoken beautifully by Galadriel followed by the creation of the rings - it draws you in being mysterious, beautiful and respectful to the books (as is the entire film) as well as feeling like an introduction to a complex world.

TTT - A little slower to start with, looking at mountains, and then a big dramatic Balrog fight. The narrative of the film starts a little slow (especially Treebeard) and then the Helm's Deep battle begins!

RotK- A shot of a worm and then we have nice familiar hobbity story. Well the movie is a bit of a worm, as it goes a bit OTT with fights and CG, but the worm is quickly forgotten with the overall story. Wink

AUJ - The lit candle shows the film will be illuminating the past, lovely homely feeling of seeing old Bilbo again (albeit with a CG face) - The film very much feels like going back home and revisiting Middle-earth, (albeit with CG everywhere).

DoS - A self-indulgent cameo from PJ, biting a carrot and then Bree flashback. - The film feels a little like going home (about as much as Bree feels like home), perhaps more like going to the pub. But the film is mostly summed up by PJ's self indulgence getting in the way of that immersion.

BoFA - The oily master saying "I'm trying to evacuate myself" followed by destruction and desolation Laugh

Hmm, interesting idea. [In reply to] Can't Post

FotR - Agreed.

TTT - I can buy that too.

RotK- Or, better - opening scene is a violent struggle over the Ring possession of. And that is what this film builds to, a violent struggle over possession of the Ring.

AUJ - I would add Erebor in somewhere; much like FotR this one is introducing the background for the trilogy.

DoS - The Bree flashback is very much two main characters telling us what they will get up to in this film, and the rest of the film is them doing it. Thorin will reclaim his homeland; Gandalf will strive to prevent Sauron's machincations.

BoFA - The intro is Laketown - the free peoples in a fight to survive an attack by a great evil, which is finally defeated by a heroic figure. So is the Battle of Five Armies.
