Saruman wearing a ring Can't Post

When Gandalf tells the Council of Elrond about the treason of Isengard, he mentions Saruman wearing a ring when they meet on the stairs of Orthanc.

It seems a rather small detail given that we do not get much other description of Saruman at this point.

An introduction to a plot line later abandoned? Or just me reading something into it? Maybe some who delved deeper into the HOME and other secondary literature know more.

Thanks :)

Saruman crafted his own ring [In reply to] Can't Post

Saruman made a special study of ring-lore and the and the devices of Sauron. He experimented in ring-making himself.

Thanks. [In reply to] Can't Post

I assumed it might be a hint at his own ring-making attempts but wondered whether there might have been more in some versions (too long sine I looked into the HOME).

But very well, thanks so much :)

You are welcome. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm sure that there is more, but I am not certain where it can be found. The information might not be included in the Appendices. I have not searched for it recently, but originally came across it by accident.

We discussed this earlier. [In reply to] Can't Post

Here is a link where the discussion stems from the topic of Saruman possessing the One Ring, and here is another disucssion where the issue of 'ring making' is discussed explicitly.

In short, many theories were proposed, but no where is the detail mentioned again, as I recall.

Call me Rem, and remember, not all who ramble are lost...Uh...where was I?
