Who had the best armor? Can't Post

Well, here's hoping I set this up right! I was thinking about all the armor we saw in the Battle of Five Armies, and wondered which armor was the best? Let's start with Thorin:

Well it certainly looks Majestic, but also very heavy and hard to move in - no wonder he ditched it before riding to Ravenhill Unsure I'm not sure it compares favorably to Elrond's gold armor:

It looks elegant and flexible, but probably not nearly as strong. I think an Orc could cut through that easily, although apparently it's tough enough against a Morgul blade weilded by a ghost. Next up, Thranduil:

Flashy and functional - those shoulder covers will direct any Orc blow downward, and it will slide down the arm. Plus there's obvious freedom of movement, judging from his swordsmanship. Which leaves the last one: Bilbo's Mithreal shirt:

Light and airy, you wouldn't break a sweat wearing it, yet no blade can pierce it. How can you go wrong with this? Unfortunately, it's only a shirt - your legs are exposed. Still, this would be my choice.

So, there you have it - the pros and cons of each piece of armor. Which would you wear into battle?

IMO, Thranduil's armor looks the most realistic. [In reply to] Can't Post

Probably the best compromise of protection and flexibility, judging by the way it looked onscreen.

Thranduil! [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it suits Thranduil's fighting style. He's on his elk during the majority of the battle so I don't think the heavy armour would be in his favour. Then again, my knowledge of armour comes from RPG games and fantasy novels.
Maybe I'm biased and I think that his armour is pretty. Or his eyebrows have mind-controlling powers and they made me say this.

I have to confess [In reply to] Can't Post

Thranduil's is the best...at least in terms of style! That guy really is the ME king of sass and sartorial splendor. (And to think how some of us used to snicker over how massive Elrond's closet must be...Angelic)

Thorin looks amazing [In reply to] Can't Post

but I had to vote Elrond. Maybe its just the whole scene there...but I go very uber-geekvana when he strides in. (Dame Ioreth, you know what I mean!)

I realize why they had Thorin lose the trappings, but I miss that line in the book about his glowing golden armor.

My answer too [In reply to] Can't Post

Certainly the film armor I most enjoyed seeing. Though it is hard to argue with the mithril shirt from a practical perspective.

And had Thorin kept it on, Azog's sword arm wouldn't have cut through THAT, would it? Too bad, I'll miss himUnsure
