But seeing how you've broken it to parts, I voted for FOTR.

but, breaking it down to 3 for the poll is fine. My choice is of course a book that includes the death of Boromir and Shelob - The Two Towers.

Depending on my mood. I do love LOTR as well of course (especially FOTR book 1) , but I've never connected the same way as I have with the other books)

I know that it is one book but for the sake of this poll I split it up for more diverse answers. Secondly, even though Tolkien wrote it as one book, it was published as three so I chose to split it up because of that as well (yes I know, the only reason they split it up was because of the cost of paper). Ps. apologies for leaving out Tolkien's essay on fairy stories(I quite like that one).

but answering FOTR, TTT, or ROTK is more like asking which chapter of The Hobbit is my favorite and that's not what I think you want to know. You want to know 'which story' is our favorite.

So far I've read The Hobbit, LOTR, The Children of Hurin, and The Silmarillion (in that order) and there are so many things I love about all of them! How could I ever choose one favorite?

However you divide them up, FOTR is my favorite. I'm always happiest when I'm walking in the Shire.
