One of the areas that I thought PJ and co did great on was the development and characterizations of the villains. Which one of these is your pick? I just listed the ones that were (to me) more obvious in this poll.

Smaug, especially in IMAX 3d. Overwhelming presence of dragons indeed.

Honorable mentions to, Angmar and Shelob (creepy personified!).

As scary in the movie as in the books, maybe more so.

When I first watched FOTR the Nazgul scared the *** out of me . After a while, throughout the rest of the trilogy that wore off. But they were great villains in FOTR.

he's a character of many shades and not just, "Raaaar! I'm evil!" Andy Serkis and the writers created a pitiable creature who was equal parts dangerous and a victim. I don't think there were many viewers who didn't feel sorry for him at some point of the films.

but I see him as more of a victim than a villain.

Definitely the most fully developed villain, and the most complicated.

In fact, I'd call him one of the most complex villains in literature.

Jaime Lannister would be another on the list. I'm trying to think of other villains who do more than play a bad-guy(girl) role.

I just rewatched "Thor 2" and I still don't know who Loki really is. I'm not sure Loki knows, the way Hiddleston plays him. But Loki is a Trickster character, like Cap'n Jack Sparrow; you just never know with them. Sometimes they do stuff for no other reason than to see what will happen; it can look like villainy but turns out to be the thing that had to happen for everyone to move forward.

He's written so well and Hiddleston does such a great job. I am intrigued to see where they go with him.

Gollum for the LoTR movies, and Smaug for the Hobbit movies. I could care less about Azog or Bolg, or the Nazgul. Sauroman was okay in LoTR, but I still think Gollum was better.

I simply love Saruman. The dark stripes that the make-up artists put through Chris Lee’s hair absolutely did the trick. I’m so glad they didn’t change the colour of his eyes...they’re so evil looking!!
