Who do you think? Can't Post

In BOFTA a dragon sick Thorin tells Bilbo he thinks one of the other twelve dwarves has taken the Arkenstone for himself. Who do you think Thorin may suspect?

Nori or Gloin, perhaps. [In reply to] Can't Post

Nori's a bit of a thief, we're told, and Gloin is the "banker".

In his madness [In reply to] Can't Post

I think he suspects the whole lot of them. His power of reasoning is out the window. What surprises me is that he never suspects Bilbo... the one who can't look him in the eye every time loyalty and honesty about the stone is mentioned.

The one time he mentioned it to Balin and Dwalin, the response wasn't to his liking.

He did.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Both in DOS and in BOT5A when he approaches Bilbo and his acorn. I think the incident with the acorn allayed his suspicions towards the Hobbit temporarily though...

You would think [In reply to] Can't Post

He would have suspected Bilbo as he was down there initially with Smaug before anyone. On the other hand I think the Acorn scene served to possibly allay his concern that it was Bilbo along with the fact that Bilbo as a Hobbit, unlike dwarves, are not overly attracted to gold and riches. I think he overlooked the hobbit because of this.

You are right though he was not in his right mind and was completely irrational. I don't think he could focus on any one of the dwarves as far as suspecting them and mistrusted the whole lot of them. He obviously did not trust Balin and Dwalin there with their responses. I do like that Thorin echoes Gollum in using the word "false" which shows the extent of his corrupted mind.

I know, right? [In reply to] Can't Post

And when he says in the throne room that he will be avenged to anyone who withholds it from him, Bilbo looks positively ready to throw up lol! He went awfully pale, then green, for a second there! Wink
