Conspiracy! That auctioneer knows more than he's letting on... Can't Post

When looking at the signatures on Bilbo's contract, he clearly knows of Thorin Oakenshield, while the signature clearly states Thorin son of Thrain...

"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that."
- Viggo Mortensen

I think it's been mentioned a couple of times [In reply to] Can't Post

But "Oakenshield" crops up in several other places in the contract.

Yes, Ataahua, there is a Santa Clause. [In reply to] Can't Post

No Santa Clause? Thank God he lives and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Ataahua, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Smile

"I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

But in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth, I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then rang the bells more loud and deep,
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men."

He must not have been reading the correct clause to have missed Santa.

Perhaps not the signature... But [In reply to] Can't Post

when Balin receives the contract from Bilbo running after them, Balin does say quite loudly: "Welcome, Mr Baggins, in the Company of Thorin Oakenshield.
So it might be mentioned as the title if not in the signature.

'Is everything sad going to come untrue?'
(Sam, 'The Field of Cormallen', in 'The Return of the King'.)
