The Return Journey, a tribute (to the tune of The Rose) Can't Post

Hi all! I’ve been away for a while working on a project (yes, that project. Not quite done but getting there), and I thought I'd drop in for a bit. I’m soon about to see TH:BOTFA for my first time (in IMAX 3D HFR!) Feeling excited, yet mellow. In my anticipation, after a long hiatus, I have been inspired to write a tribute to the release of that film, with apologies to Bette Midler.

-The Return Journey-

(to the tune of The Rose, Bette Midler, a song I’ve rediscovered very recently. For lack of a recording of these modified lyrics sung, that clip should be played in the background while reading.)

* * *

Some say home, it is a shelter where one hides from the rain.

Some say home, it is a treasure great hosts rise up to claim.

Some say home, it is a memory that burned bright in the flames.

I say home, it’s the beginning where you come back again.

It’s the feet afraid of walking that never learn to run.

It’s the stone afraid of losing that never can be won.

It’s the bow afraid of yielding that cannot seem to bend,

And the pride afraid of bowing that never keeps a friend.

When the fight has been too bloody and the road has been too long,

And you think that home is only for the lucky and the strong,

Just remember, on the mountain, in the wild and bitter snow,

You will find your seed of courage, and you'll earn your journey home.

* * *

Thanks for reading/listening.

Enjoy the film and then come back and join the conversation. I'm sure you could use the break.

The Rose was my mother's favourite song, and she made a wonderful home for us. This was another very nice combination.

I've been gone a while too, Rux, due to lack of internet service. The Verizon guy came the other day and here I am.

Great effort.

Thank you Liss! [In reply to] Can't Post

I could easily imagine the Rose as a favorite song, especially for a mother. I imagine it sung by a mother to her child.

Thanks and great to see you too, my friend! Smile

Thanks Sempai, I'd sure like to think he'd appreciate it.
after seeing the film, not sure i would have included the lyrics about "wild and bitter snow". There wasnt as much of it as I had expected.

i can relate about the tears, Kim! [In reply to] Can't Post

Nice to see you too! Thank you for finding it moving.

Saw the movie yesterday. Man, tears galore for me. I did not expect that to happen for this movie. So I get what you mean when you say tearing up "again". Evil

And thanks. Smile

Speaking of heart, I found the movie emotional, but in a different way than how I anticipated as I was writing this. You know which part the tears started for me? The part where Thorin wakes up from the Dragon sickness and becomes heroic again. From there until the end credits, the tears never stopped.

He was born of mortal frailty mixed with Elven fallen realm,
Comin’ home to a land he’d never been before.
Arvernian behind him, sailed the seas of Middle-earth,
You might say he didn’t know what lay in store.

When his wife came out to find him she'd been turned into a bird,
Upon her breast there shone a shining star,
So he took her to his bosom, and by morn her form returned,
And he shifted West to find the high Valar.

And in Valinor he went before the high,
In doing so, resigned himself to die.
Take up arms against the Shadow, asked he of the high,
of the Valar high. (Fight, fight the Shadow)
of the Valar high. (Fight, fight the Shadow)
